Question:

Help deciding on a New Riding Mower????

I have this 1988 Wheelhorse tractor with an B&S 8hp engine and a single blade mowing deck. Its a small tractor, but I am able to squeeze in between tight areas and I am able to store it no problem in my small garage.

Well, the other day i took off the mowing deck to sharpen the blade and noticed a pin hole in the deck from rust. I am figuring that maybe it is time for a new mower before this thing gets in worse shape than it is.

I have in between a l.5 to 2 acre lot and am looking for a long lasting reliable mower like this 20 yr old mower has served.

I am torn between a cub cadet and a john deere. Craftsman and toro are out of the question. I borrowed someones craftsman tractor and found out it DOESN'T MOW IN REVERSE!!

Can anyone tell me their views on the Cub Cadet 1000 series tractor and the John Deere X300 tractor??

  1. John Deere X300 is just fine for our yard which is 1.5 acres. The only problem I have is I like to use the grass clipping for mulch, and the bagger gets clogged when the grass is wet. That's my 2 cents.
