I live in Australia and have watched the NFL for many years now. We have only just started getting college football broadcasted over here live and thought it was time to support a team and watch the games.

I have narrowed my choices down to either...

-LSU Tigers

-Notre Dame Fighting Irish

-Florida Gators

I want to know who I should go for and why? Don't be bias towards your team. Also if you could give good and bad points about each team that'd be great.

  1. Florida and I'll tell you why.

Last year they had a great season and are ranked 5th.

They have Hiesman winner Tim Tebow at QB who can run or pass on demand

They have a very talented offense (Their WR #1, i believe, had rushed more than hes received)

They have a very solid defense.

  2. Out of those 3 LSU. Real men root for the WVU Mountaineers. LETS GO MOUNTAINEERS!

  3. oh h**l yes!! just like the very first poster said.. LETS GO MOUNTAINEERS!!!! they are the most hardcore team this year, and they have a HUGE score to settle. if you care to do a little research, the head coach from last year threw the most important game of the season and left them high and dry, cost them their title at the BCS Bowl. they brought in an interim coach as their new head coach and totally hammered Oklahoma to win the Fiesta bowl.  Coach Bill Stewart had to take over, and the first game of the season the 'eers thrashed Villanova.

they're coming back with a vengeance.

  4. I am not a fan of any of these teams, so I think I can do this fairly.

-LSU Tigers: LSU is one of the top teams in the country. They have that smashmouth game that champions are made of, which is why they won it last year. Their defense is tremendous, and their offense is solid enough to get it done. They have the best fan support in the country, by far, and, as far as I know, havn't lost a game at home in years. LSU controls the recruiting in the south-east, and if you are from Mississippi, Alabama, Florida, or Louisiana, playing for the Tigers is what you do.

However, they are in for a world of hurt in the next couple of years. They play in the SEC, the toughest conference in the country. Every team is good. LSU is losing most of their main players from their championship team. Both members of their duo-quarterback set, which is one reason they won, are gone. Matt Flynn, their true passing quarterback, was a senior, so he is gone into the NFL, while Ryan Perrilloux, their speedster, got cut off the team. Their running back, Jacob Hester, is also in the NFL. Losing the best player in the country in Glenn Dorsey will hurt the most. LSU will continue to bring more and more recruits in, but they are losing players more than they can bring them in, which is the last thing you want in the cut-throat SEC.

-Notre Dame Fighting Irish. If you want the team you support to have a storied history, Notre Dame is your team. They are the most well-known, well-respected, and well-to-do team in college football. Award after award. Championship after championship. Notre Dame has it all. They also have their own television program. Every Notre Dame game will be televised on NBC, so they always have the publicity to bring in their recruits, which they do better than any other team in the country.

However, Notre Dame has fallen on hard times. The talent on that team has gone. The days of Brady Quinn throwing it deep to Jeff Samardzija are gone, and you can tell. Notre Dame won, what, three games last year? They are a joke at this point. Also, being in the Independents (which means they dont have a set schedule), Notre Dame picks every game they play for a reason: a good show. They will play the best teams in the country every year, and, lately, they get beat down by them.

-Florida Gators. Florida has really come into it's own over the past few years. They have always been around, but have never dominated like they've dominated the last two or three years. They have Tim Tebow, the best quarterback in the country, alongside Percy Harvin, an absolute monster at the wide-out spot. They are true champions.

Florida will give you another good show this year, and maybe next, but I am not sure about them after that. Tebow will be gone in two years, and Harvin may leave this year, and when that day happens, it will be a huge loss to the city of Gainesville. They are the team. When they leave, it is back to the dog-pile.

I would suggest you support Notre Dame. They are a true team. If you can deal with some losing for the first year or so, you will be rewarded by a comeback of the most storied team in the history of college football.

I am a Cal and Stanford fan, by the way.

  5. Do you want to support a winning team?  I would go for LSU.  They have unreal talent this year even with a inexperienced QB.  They are trying for a repeat national title.  It will also be 3 national titles since the BCS inception (potentially).

  6. Well,i am crimson through and through, and personally don't care for any of the 3 teams you picked.

if i were new to football and in your situation,Notre Dame of the 3 would give me the most tradition, they have a tradition of winning and class and they have been around a long time and have been tough, although i think the polls have been generous to them at times.

the problem there is they are independent don't have an extreme amount of tough games in a year.

now LSU and Florida are in the SEC.

if you follow one of those teams you will see a lot of good games, the whole south eastern conference is very much about football and have some very exciting games.

in the SEC you have teams with as much tradition and prestige as Notre Dame does, Alabama first off is equal to Notre Dame in tradition. Tennessee,Florida,LSU,Auburn,Georgia(who also has a good bit of tradition) all of these teams present great match ups when playing each other as well as anyone else they play.

of these 2 Florida and LSU,i would pick LSU.

not because they are great, but because the play in the SEC west, which i think is the better side of the conference.you would get to see them play Alabama and Auburn every year, both teams are rivalries to LSU,not counting Arkansas, and Ole Miss are always ready to upset you.plus they always play some of the top teams out of the SEC east, like Florida or Tennessee.

of the 3 i like Notre Dame the best, because LSU and Florida are rivalries of Alabama, but then i'm already an Alabama fan and therefore enjoy the competition they face each week in the SEC.

so if i were you i'd pick LSU,for the fact that you will see more good games by watching them than with Notre Dame, you may even decide that you like one of the other SEC teams better after watching them week after week. i would still watch Notre Dame though, just because they are an old and honored team.

Penn ST,Michigan,USC,Nebraska and Oklahoma are some other old and time honored schools. welcome to the fun world of college football.

  7. go for LSU the best

  8. Florida Gators! I have been to many games. I have also lived in florida all my life. Everyone knows that Tim Tebow is the best quarter back and also very hot! lol I am a fan because I believe you should support your state. And Fsu sucks...along with miami. We may have lost the championship last year but the year before we kick some butt. And we're going to do it again this year!

    GO GATORS!!!

  9. College football is all about rabid passion and proud tradition.  Notre Dame has the most tradition of any program period--the only school even close is Alabama.  No one will ever match their number of national titles and the USC-ND is arguably the greatest rivalry in all of college football history.  They are in many ways the mascot of college football, which is exactly why so many other team fans despise their fans.  You will hear, "All you ever hear is about their past, but they never do anything today."   But they are just that, a storied program rich in lore.

On the other hand, LSU and Florida, like "Bama, belong to the Southeastern Conference (SEC), and no conference is as brutal and rabid as the SEC.  (I myself am a Volunteer from Tennessee.)  No other conference's play even begins to compare with the intensity of the SEC--its fans are close kin to British soccer hooligans.  The Southeast is the bread basket of football talent, and we take great pride in that common heritage.  So there is a certain unity among SEC fans--we hate each other during regular season, but if LSU plays in a major bowl game, every Florida and Bama fan alike will claim LSU for their own.  O.k., Bama fans will never pull for Auburn, and i doubt many Ole Miss fans will ever associate with the bayou bengals...but we do generally bond, especially against Ohio State.

Bottom line: you cannot go wrong with any of these programs.  A few other historic teams to consider: Alabama, Texas, Nebraska, the Ohio State University, and the University of Southern California.

  10. LSU won it all last year and looks good this year.Another team that you didn't mention is the Georgia Bulldogs.

  11. Hey, you could be just like me. I'm a Packers fan and Florida Gators fan.

LSU Tigers: have a guy from Harvard starting at QB

Notre Dame: since Brady Quinn and Samardzija left, it hasn't been the same

Florida Gators: Tim Tebow is the greatest college player to watch, and the Gators have one of the most electrifying offenses in college

I know I'm being biased, but GO GATORS!!!!!!!!!!!

  12. If I had to choose from your three choices I would have to go with Notre Dame just because of their history and tradition.  I personally am a Bama (Crimson Tide) fan.  The Iron Bowl (Alabama v. Auburn) is watched all over the country.  Even though I grew up in Texas I remember watching the Iron Bowl growing up.  Alabama has had some very tough years here lately coaching problems but we now have Nick Saban and are very hopeful.  We just won our first game - 34/10 against Clemson.  I just love the heart and soul of Alabama.  I did live there for about 12 years but I am now in North Caroline but will always be a die hard Bama fan regardless.

  13. I personally like the Alabama Crimson Tide and Auburn Tigers. Out of the three you chose I would say Florida because LSU has a retarded coach who wont be around in a couple of years because he makes stupid decisions and because he cannot coach, He inherited a good team and won a National championship. It is going to be hard for Notre Dame to be consistent contenders again because first of all the game has changed. Secondly the standards to get into that school are too high and they cant always get the best athletes. Their team is too slow. Im not a Gators fan but they are exciting to watch and can light up the scoreboad
