My dad is giving me one chance to learn to drive.

I need to start a stick shift and move it forward a little without it stalling and he will teach me. Problem is i only have 2 tries and I have NEVER driven a stick shift before. I read as much about it as I could on line but nothing compares to the real thing. Please Please help me. I got only one chance lol

:DDDDDDDDD thank you!

  1. well if you are on a flat surface... just put it in gear and very slowly let the clutch out very slowly and the car will creep forward... if on the a hill very slowly let the clutch out till the rpms of the engine start to drop, then let your foot off the brake gently give the car a little gas as you let your foot off of the clutch and the car will move forward.... good luck hope it helps!

  2. Well if you just need to car to go foreward be in gear rev to 3k and drop or let go of the clutch and with wheel spring ur car should shoot foreward and she u feel it slam ur clutch in and put it in. Neutral so you won't stall

  3. I dont agree with his method....

but, push in the clutch all the way, and put the shifter into first gear(usualy far left and up)

then, once your in gear, SLOWLY let off the clutch, and slowly press the gas farther down

if the car starts to sound like its going to stall, give it a little bit more gas and, let out slower on the clutch then originaly

i hope that he gives you the opurtunity to learn to drive a manual vehical...

i learned on a 5 speed and, i can honestly say i have only driven an automatic 7 times

  4. Everyone above explained it well but if you would like something a bit more visual then watch this:

    I hope it helps.

P.S. I think your dad is a jerk. Learning to drive isn't about getting it right the first time, it's about taking your time and learning at your own pace. Just dont be nervous. When I was a kid I learned how to drive stick without having any idea what I was doing (no reading up on it or anything) in like 15 mins.

  5. ok first off it will take time to get it right . before you even start the car. get to know the car. locate clutch brake and gas peddle. Locate turn and hazzard signal. push brake and clutch peddle and etc... this is to get u aquainted with the way they operate. notice when the tention on each is released. that helps with peddle control. once car is started notice where rpm are thats your base level. if rpm is lower than that car will stall. on level ground you only want to rev engine litelly to get going. You should be know where your gears are. So push clutch in all the way. move shift to first gear and rev engine lightly while depressing clutch slowly. If you have any troublepush clutch and brake at same time to stop. that should get you started.

  6. one chance? thats not very nice. Good driving comes with experience.

Ever since i was about 15 my father took me to a closed safe area where he would teach me the basics to get me ready for the future. You need time to learn not one chance, it doesnt work like that

  7. Wow, then I suggest you go learn from someone else then. Given only one chance to learn a stick shift is ridiculous, especially if its your first time driving it! unless your some super duper fast learner then yea, one chance might be enough...Nothing compares to the real driving, so its better you go out there and drive the actual car, then just read on the net.

  8. put it in neutral

    start engine

    press clutch pedal down

    find first gear

    rev engine to 2000 revs

slowly lift clutch pedal until it "bites"

    release handbrake

slowly lift clutch pedal some more

keep revs about 2000, and be gentle with the clutch and the car will not stall.

  9. Lots of great answers here.  One thing that might help, if you dad will let you, is to sit in the car and get the feel for the gas peddle.  They all feel a little different from one another and if you only get two chances, it might be good to experiment a little with the brake on and the car in neutral.  What I would do is push it down gently, and get the rpms up a little without revving it way up.  I think it would help if you get the feel for the gas peddle before you start.
