So my duck had pipped at the small end. What do I do now? Will it be able to hatch on its own or will it need help?

It's beak is out a little bit but I'm worried that it is stuck.

  1. I would say no cause for alarm right away, keep a timed watch ,see if there is progress in an hour, mark round the opening with a marker pen, this will be a good guide as to wether things are progressing.

Do not hesitate to very carefully & gently move a liitle bit more of the shell, thus widening the gap through which the duckling can emerge. If needed this help can be extended till you are sure there is enough space as well as enegry on the part of the duckling to pop out.Warmth is of utmost importance so the duckling should be returned to the hen or incubator without delay.

  2. Just watch and see if the duckling struggles.  Don't wait too long to help.  Just remove a little of the shell around where the little one already started and see if that helps.  If it's too exhausted and having difficulty you may have to remove more of the shell.
