Oh, the bells, bells, bells!

What a tale their terror tells

Of Despair!

How they clang, and clash, and roar!

What a horror they outpour 5

On the bosom of the palpitating air!

Yet the ear it full knows

By the twanging

And the clanging

How the danger ebbs and flows . . . 10

What object in the poem is a symbol for fear and despair?

the air

the ear

the danger

the bells

  1. Do your own homework otherwise it's pointless; it'll do you no favours if I (or anyone else!) does it for you as you gain nothing worth having by going down that track.

Try reading the poem aloud to yourself a couple of times; then try picking out the references to each of the suggested symbols.

The answer is obvious if you simply stop and take the time to work through the poem word for word, line for line. In fact, you only need to consider the first five lines for the answer to leap off the page at you!

  2. Hello,

I think that the answer to this is D. The Bells.

    Listen to these lines:

    Oh, the bells, bells, bells!

What a tale their terror tells

    Of Despair!

    It's the Bells.

The whole poem is about comparing fear, horror, and despair to the sound the bells make!

    Hope I Helped! :-)
