I just got accepted to nursing school, and filled out my fafsa. My EFC is $0. I already have a bachelors degree and will be attending part time, since i don't have to take any other classes besides the nursing classes. I know i won't qualify for a Pell grant because of my degree but will my loan cover all of my tuition, which is about $2500/ semester?

  1. There's a chance it will, but you will have to get that information from the Financial Aid office of your school. They should be able to tell you.

  2. With an EFC of zero, you could well be offered a large enough Stafford loan to cover that $5000 annual tuition. Whether you'll actually get that much will  depend on whether you have previously borrowed from the Stafford program - because there is a lifetime borrowing maximum. If you funded a lot of your bachelor's expenses with Stafford funds, you may bump up against those limits at some point.

Also keep in mind that you need to attend school at least half-time to qualify for Stafford eligibility.

Your school's financial aid office will be able to review your borrowing history and they'll be able to advise you about the remaining funds that are available to you. Good luck in your nursing program!

  3. Yes, the financial aid office of your school can tell you.  They may need a few weeks to process the fafsa info, but they can tell you.

  4. BA loans max out at 42,000$

Depending on how much it cost for your first degree you will have to find out to know how much you have left to spend for the 2nd. And "IF" you need extra for living.
