1: If you doubled the number of coils and doubled the voltage, what would be the increase in magnetic strength?

It would remain the same, since 2 / 2 = 1

It would be 4 times as strong, since 2 x 2 = 4

You can't increase magnetism by increasing the voltage

2: What causes the loudspeaker cone to vibrate?

Sounds that come from the radio or TV

The movement of a magnet within a coil of wire with varying current running through it

The movement of electrons in the electromagnet

3: Why is wire wound in so many loops in commercial generators?

Many loops are needed to make AC electricity

Voltage depends on how many loops are used

No one is sure why they do it that way

4: Why are kilowatts used?

Because James Kilowatt invented electricity

So we don't confuse them with watts

Using watts would result in much larger numbers

5: How many kilowatt-hours does a 100 watt light bulb use in 10 hours?

1 kilowatt-hour

1000 kilowatt-hours

$7.00

  1. altogether a bad set of questions, with 1 and 2 having no correct answer.

1: If you doubled the number of coils and doubled the voltage, what would be the increase in magnetic strength?

    It would remain the same, since 2 / 2 = 1

    It would be 4 times as strong, since 2 x 2 = 4

You can't increase magnetism by increasing the voltage

If you double the number of turns, you double the resistance, so when you double the voltage, the current remains the same.

Magnet field is proportional to current and number of turns. Current didn't change, number of turns doubled, so field would double in strength.

2: What causes the loudspeaker cone to vibrate?

    a) Sounds that come from the radio or TV

    b) The movement of a magnet within a coil of wire with varying current running through it

    c) The movement of electrons in the electromagnet

A is correct, sometimes, if the speaker is hooked to a radio or TV, as opposed to a CD player, for example

B is backwards, the coil is what moves, in the field of a fixed permanent magnet, at least in most speakers. Some use electrostatic attraction and repulsion.

C is correct for those speakers that are driven by an electromagnet.

3: Why is wire wound in so many loops in commercial generators?

Voltage depends on how many turns are used.

    4: Why are kilowatts used?

Using watts would result in much larger numbers

5: How many kilowatt-hours does a 100 watt light bulb use in 10 hours?

    1 kilowatt-hour
