What is the standard form of the equation for the line that passes through the points (-1,-11) and (-1,-4)?

  1. Note that in each point, the x value is -1.  The equation for this line can be written as

    x = -1

    Standard form would be written as:

    0y + 1x = -1


  2. Standard form of a line is Ax + By = C but this one is kind of tricky.

    When you do the slope formula, the slope is 7/0 and of course we can't divide by zero.

    Then you realize that it's a vertical line because both x-coordinates are -1.

    The equation of a vertical line is x = ____________ <==-x-coordinate

    So the answer is x = -1
