Question:

Help find a hotel for my parents anniversary in Cabo San Lucas!?

This will be a gift for my parents anniversary and I want to make sure they get the most out of Cabo with my limited budget =/

We're looking for a hotel in Los Cabos that is near all the adventure outings (ATV, wave runner, biking, boating). A non-rocky beach that they can relax and go in (swimming isn't a factor), a nice pool to lay around and a spa (not massage service types but a place with just a spa to go to) to end their day.

For types of hotels, a non-inclusive hotel with walking distances to restaurants and nightlife would be great but if it's cheaper and better bang for the buck, I don't mind getting the one that is inclusive for them.

I've read some great review on hotels (expedia etc) but later finding out that they're not as close and driving distances from all the attraction. I don't want my parents to worry about finding transportation to get to these types of outting.

Budget is $2000 for round trip and hotel package for 2 adults staying for 5 nights.

  1. You can rent them a very nice condo for about $50/nite (RB Condos) they have two locations, one next to the marina the other right behind Medano Beach. Less than 1 mile apart I'm sure. Dining at the Stop Light, can be under $20/person per night easily and there is a Delta flight right now for $479.RT LAX/SJD. The condo has a kitchen so the light meals can bne easily handled at home. These are nice places, first hand experience.

  2. I just booked a trip for 2 to Cabo for 8 days (8/30 - 9/7) for approx. $2200 (including airfare, 4.5 start resort & airport transporation) at the Fiesta American Grand Los Cabos.  I've never been to Cabo but it appears to be a nice resort, customer review seem good as well (see link below for reviews). I booked thru travelocity.com, however expedia.com also has good prices for Cabo.  I think your budget can get you a nice vacation.  Good luck!

  3. Hola.  You do know Cabo is the most expensive resort in Mexico right?!!  I'll try my best to work within your budget.

I think you might have to consider an all-inclusive...I recommend the Riu Sante Fe for your parents.  It is a brand new resort and it covers everything you asked for.  Second, I would look at the non-all-inclusive option of the Solmar suites resort..an older crowd really loves this resort and it to is close to town and easy access to everything.  You can't go wrong with the Pueblos (bonito, pacifica, sunset) or the Villas (del parmar, del arco, etc)  These are the resorts where you can walk to pretty much anything in downtown Cabo.

But do your parents really need to stay right in Cabo?  The reason I ask this is because we have several really great resorts in San Jose del Cabo (about 25 minutes from Cabo but closer to the airport)  The Crowne Plaza, Royal Solaris, El Presidente are all really great and cater to an older, mellower crowd, but still lots of fun.  Also, they are all walking distance into the quaint little town of SJD and people really love the art galleries, restaurants, shopping, old colonial buildings and zocolo (town square).  It feels more like mexico than Cabo.

Of course, we boast at least one hundred more really really fantastic resorts that would knock your socks off and would be perfect for your parents....but since money is the issue and/or transportation you might find them out of your pricerange.  Check out Dreams and the Marquis just in case they have some summmer deals.

    Hope this helps.

....oh and p.s. transportation is really not as bad as it seems here.  You can catch buses, and/or taxis and shuttles, rent a car, or grab a tour group and they will shuttle you to the nearest attraction.  Also, alot of the resort offer their own shuttles.

  4. I will recommend you to narrow your search to San Jose del Cabo, that is less crowded and more quiet. All the resorts are walking distance to downtown and great restaurants to enjoy.

For the activities, some include the transportation, and if they want to take a sunset cruise, just take a taxi to Cabo San Lucas, there are cheapest ways, but not recommended.

Mayan Palace or Cabo Azul are the newest Resorts here, both have great pools, spa, and on a sandy beach, but not really for swimming. They work as a time share too, so if they don't mind to go to a presentation, you can get great deals, like 3 nights x $200 USD and good price for extra nights.

  5. Go to TripAdvisor.com for a list of hotels with comments from past guests and for destination guides.

  6. It's a pretty tight budget if it includes airfare and hotel room. If it includes transportation and food it is close to impossible.

The Marina Resort has a nice pool, and you can walk to a nice beach in 15-20 minutes. There is a larger selection of places to eat. The more remote resorts have restaurant prices that will make your eyes bug out. It is a lot cheaper than the resorts right on the beach.

The map shows the marina in relation to the Medano Beach.
