Question:

Help finding birth mother?

by  |  earlier

I was adopted as a newborn in California. My adoption records are sealed. I am unable to get the records opened unless I have a court order, which usually requires a terminal illness. Does anyone have any suggestions as to how I may go about looking for my birth mother? I do know the day, time, year, hospital and city of my birth.

Thank you for any suggestions you may have.

  1. I just came across this blog post this morning that has a list of really good ideas.

  2. Very good responses from everyone.  Also try www.adoption.com    Check out the registry and see if there is anyone there looking for you that has same info you do.  The mothers can register and so can the adoptees.  If no one has put their info out looking for you, don't worry.  Add your information and keep checking back.

    Good Luck!

  3. Go to "Tina's Adoption Search" and you will find lots of guidance, instructions, and support!

Many times there are search sites where you can post the info and if anyone knows anything, they will contact you.

Try also:  www.cyndislist.com/adoption.htm - a good all around search help site.

Here is the link to the California Department of Social Services adoption search page:

    Good luck to you!

  4. Check the adoption registry for your state (any adoption agency will have this website or phone number) and see if your birthmother registered?  Birth mothers are given the option to register when they sign the consent forms for the adoption.  I am not positive that all states have this registry, but check it out.

  5. Ca birth records are available on line through ancestry.com (14 day free trial avail.).  Depending on what county you were born there is a chance that it will show your birth mother's last name.

Have you requested you non-id info from the agnecy/state?

This is very important because it will give you ages and if your birth mother had any siblings and possibly info on birth father. if she/they were married if she had any children prior to you......

You should also register with isrr.net and as may online registries as possible and look at the registries to see if she has posted any info.

    registry.adoption.com

    Ca specific registry:  http://100megsfree3.com/levgen/data.html

feel free to email me if you would like me to run a birth index search for you.
