Question:

Help finding cost of caterers?

My fiance and I are trying to search online about catering, but we really can't find anything. We just want to get an estimate about how much it will cost. Can you guys help me find menu's and prices online somewhere? It doesn't matter for what location, I just want a general idea. Thanks so much!

Hi and congratulations!  Seriously, no one here is going to be able to help you.  It's great that you gave your location, but even in Toledo prices can vary greatly.  It really depends.  Venues that have their own catering as part of the total "package" such as golf clubs, hotels, and other reception places....well, again, they will even vary in the same city!

I could tell you what some things are here where I live, but I am in Michigan.  It won't help you.  Even someone that was married in Toledo may not be able to help you.

The best thing to do is to look at various venues, make an appointment with their banquet sales coordinator, and go in and speak with him/her.  Some even let you have taste testings.  Some may lower the price if you have a large number of guests (200+), others may cut a deal if you also are doing open bar....so, again, it all depends on THAT particular venue.  And, if you are looking at a 2010 wedding or beyond...their prices may change by then.  Also...some have a "total package".....hall, food, bar, linens, centerpieces, etc.

Sorry, I can't be more help, but these questions are just too difficult to answer.

  2. Well where do u guys live? It is different prices for different States !

Its different prices for what city you live in, what time of day will it be held,a sit down buffet or plated meal! How many people and what exactly does that venue serves!

  3. I would say you'd get a range anywhere between $8 and $15 a plate.  There are just SO many variations, but I understand your need to have some idea.

We are considering a restaurant for our small wedding/reception and it is $25/plate for a sit-down dinner (decor, wedding cake, appetizers etc. etc. all included).  Also, it may actually be cheaper to have a sit-down dinner rather than a buffet.

  4. Make appointments with different caterers.

Go taste the food and talk $ at that point.
