Question:

Help finding forestry magazine advertisement from 1970s?

I remember this great, 2-pg magazine advertisement of a giant wizard awing two slack-jawed children by spreading saplings over a clear-cut hillside with his right hand, while behind their backs with his left he was collecting mature trees. I saw it at the time as self-referential irony, but David Letterman was still inventing that. Maybe the illustrator was unconsciously rebelling.

Anyone recognize my description, and/or know of a way to find such an advertisement?

Thanks!

  1. . You might try Googleing 'Forestry advertisements 1970' or try that on an eBay search.

Or look for forestry magazines or publications of the '70's. It sounds like something from the Oregon lumber industry. .

  2. Do you remember the name of the magazine? Given some time I might have a chance since I work at a library and we have some older periodicals. I will try.

  3. I'd check with Washington,DC, based American Forests (see link below).  They've run a magazine by the same name for decades.  If it wasn't run in one of their editions I'm sure they can point you in the right direction.

Failing that I'd try the U.S. Ad Council.  You can find them at the second link below.  This is called a "full spread" or "facing page" ad by the way.  A two-page ad can also include ads that continue over to a turned page (you see this a good deal with pharmaceutical ads these days).

Good luck.  Let me know if you track this down.

  4. maybe if you go to a book store. if they don't have it then they might be able to order it for you or they will give you an address or phone number and you can do it yourself.i always use (ask.com) or (askjeeves.com) they help me alot.
