Question:

Help finding stamped cross stitch pattern / ideas . . .?

I am looking to give a gift of 12 cross-stitched napkins and a table cloth. I want each napkin to be a different flower/herb/etc. but can't figure out how to buy napkins. Is there a way to stamp a pattern onto the napkins and table cloth or even just a grid that can be washed away? Its for a bride and we want every cousin & Aunt to participate hence the 12 napkins. Anyone know what direction I can go with this?

Any and all help is greatly appreciated.

  1. Search the internet for Herrschner's needle arts catalog.  They carry all kinds of cross stitch and fabric crafts including the stamped, cross stitch table cloths, runners, pillowcases etc.

Good luck and hope your new bride appreciates the love already shown by this idea.

Another thought occured to me just before I posted this.  If you want to stamp your own there is a transfer company called Aunt Martha's.  I've used these and they work well and may have what you want for flowers and herbs.

  2. I used to get the stamping patterns at the yard goods and crafting counters. Herrshners still has some of these patterns available I think.

You can also get the washoff pens and make your own patterns? Takes a lot of work to do it.

another thought I just had is the counted cross stitch waste canvas. It is basted onto the fabric, then the pattern diagram is worked.

Available from any of the good crafts stores. And there are loads of counted cross stitch books available.

This might get kind of pricey, but on Mary Maxim they have kits - you could get the tablecloth of one flower, and a set of napkins for different flowers... something to think about, anyway.  Good luck, this is a really great gift idea.
