Help finding the name of the insect?

this insect is very large, the size of my palm and it is grey and jumps very high. it doesnt look like a spider, kind of like a grasshopper. they live in the rocks in a well that my neighbor has. they have large eyes and are uggllyy! i have looked at alot of pics and havent seen one like it yet. my neighbor throws his scraps of food down there when hes done eating, i guess they find it appetizing. if u think u might know, i would love to hear your opinion.im very curious, i've never seen anything that big!
