  1. Yep, legally they aren't supposed to drive for more than 8 hours in a row with out getting some sleep.  I think it's 8, it was quite a while since I asked my truckdriver friend.

He had his own truck that had a little room in the back with a bed and all, it was like a small dorm room.  On cross country trips, sometimes his wife would come along with so one could sleep while the other drives.  But the answer is yes, they can and should stop to sleep, but that doesn't mean they always do.

Now the trucks for the likes of UPS, USPS Fed-ex ground, and DHL....they stop for another reason too.  Between CA and NC there are a bunch of hubs...  it's not likely that there is a full semi truck full of stuff going from one town in CA, to one town in NC, so some of the truck will be unloaded at hubs along the way, and somemore will be loaded up on the truck for another hub along the way or the destination at NC.

  2. This is just a guess

But I most likely think they get to take breaks

To eat, use the restroom, rest, etc.

I mean. When on the road, dont you ever see the big trucks in the parking lots of hotels?

They're human, the bosses know that

I think their "rest, bathroom, etc" time is limited though

You know, you they get to their destination faster.

    Just a guess though.

    =D
