Help fix high ping in Team Fortress 2?

ok so i've upgraded my internet from DSL to a cable modem i would've expected lower ping when playing team fortress 2 but my ping sky rockets up to 300 but when i had DSL it stayed at 90 is there a way to fix? i have limewire but its not running at this time so it couldnt be that.

play in servers near you with a lower amount of players. Also look for servers with low latecy
