I'm asking this for a friend...

She is a single mother in a relationship that is not very harmful but also not very healthy. She is living with her boyfriend at the time but really wants to move on her own and start rebuilding her life. However, she is afraid because she has nothing (no bed, no furniture, no nothing) other that the clothes for her 2 sons, other than churches are there any programs that can help get her these things?

  1. Not sure what exactly is in your area, but every place has help for single mothers.  Have her check the Department of Health and Human Resources in your county.  Do you have a library nearby?  Ours here (Huntington WV) has Information & Referral to help.  Hope this helps.

  2. Get on the internet and look up "Freecycle" for your town and state. Its a group where people give away things for free. You can give away or you can take. There is all kinds of things on there. Most of its used but it should help.

  3. freecycle.org

its a yahoo based thing where you can type in your city and state and become a member, for free. and people give away lots of stuf, for free

i had a good friend who furnished her entire living room with brand new, never used furniture from this site.... check that out

  4. Contact Social Services, if she doesn't have a job and/or qualifies for assistance, they can help her get into an apartment/house and get the necessities to start off.
