I just went vegetarian, and It's been very diffucult to find foods to satisfy my appetite. When I ate meat, It usually filled me up, but now I eat a meal, and I'm still hungry. I've also found that certain types of tofu make me want to puke. I guess what I'm asking is, how can I make it a bit easier for me to get filled up, and what is the best type of tofu?

any help is appreciated

  1. tofu is made out of soy beans

so my suggestion to you is to eat more soy beans, you can soak over night and cook it anyway you like

    it's cheaper, and better

you can even grow your own soy sporuts

    or buy em

or eat beans, chilli without meat, eat bread, cheesse sticks, cheese bread, cheese pizza, you have to buy vegetarian cook books or vistit vegetairan sites, learn to cook, steamed vegetables, my keyboard explodes

  2. Meat substitutes, nuts, beans, pasta, carbs etc. will fill you up.

You could also pig out at some of the places listed on my website.

  3. Rice bowls are good to try. you can find them in the frozen food sections of stores. they have veggies and sauce and they fill you up. If you like them then you can experiment and make your own. they are simple to make because you can buy rice from a store like Trader Joes that is ready made  and frozen veggies you can mix together and they sell good sauces to pour over them.

  4. I'm a pretty new vegetarian too :) To fill myself up, I try to eat a lot of grains, because they keep me full for a few hours. Also, peanut butter (usually goes with grains, I know, but it really fills me up)

Lastly, if you eat darker fruits and vegetables, they tend to have more substance to them, and keep you full longer

    Good luck :)

  5. Pasta helps a lot. Its very fullfilling. And what your going through is completely normal. Usually when you switch from eating meat pretty much your whole life then cutting it off for a substitute like tofu and veggie patties sometimes taste nasty, or make you even more hungry. That is completely normal though. People almost get dependent on meat. But it will pass you just need to find new veggie meals that you can make that will hit that right spot!

  6. You can eat extra vegetables to stay a little more full. Also between meals u can drink water it keeps u full without adding calories. Hope this helps!

  7. Hi there!  I myself am not a vegetarian but try not to eat too much red meat in my diet.  There are some tips I can you give you though.  Make sure to incorporate a lot of different types of beans into your diet.  They will fill you up and give you the protein that your body needs.  You can use them on top of salads, in spaghetti sauce.. just about in or on anything.  Also eat peanut butter, cheeses and drink alot of milk.  Try to stay away from white bread and refined sugars and stick to whole grains and wheat products. They will keep you full and are better for you.  Try to consider adding fish, seafood, and/or poultry to your diet also.  Alot of people consider these to be an exception to meat.  My friend likes the bocca burgers instead of hamburger so that is something that  you could try.  While becoming a vegetarian you want to maintain your health and so buy yourself a good multi-vitamin and take it as directed.  Also, try eating a small meal 6x's a day.  This should keep you full.  Good luck in your quest to better health :)

  8. yes but meat has nothing in it but fatty proteins.

    it's empty calories.

eat more fresh fruits and veggies... that simple.

  9. Fried bean curd (tofu) has a different, chewier texture than the regular. Maybe try that? I assume you mean some kinds gross you out, not that you have become physically ill after the fact.

  10. dont listen to him!!!! if you still eat cheese and dairy try eating slices of cheese or eating fruits with plain yogurt and gronala those are always good. make a cold pasta salad with lots of yummy veggies and like a extra virgin olive oil dressing with a little bit of salt and pepper to taste and that should help.... good luck hope those suggestions help you a lil bit

  11. WHY DO YOU DO IT!!!! I CANT LIVE WITHOUT MEAT

  12. You have to make sure you're using the right tofu--silken tofu (in the aseptic packages) is for sauces, puddings, smoothies.  Don't use it for stir-fries or other hearty dishes.

Get the firm or extra-firm tofu in the water-filled cartons.  Drain them, freeze them for at least 24 hours.  Also press your tofu before you cook it.  It takes time learning how to cook tofu well.

Try tempeh, an Indonesian food made with fermented soybeans.  You can pan-fry, marinate and grill, whatever.  It's nutty and chewy and also fills you up.

Eat brown rice instead of white, whole wheat pasta instead of white pasta, and other grains wherever possible.  Plant foods have more fiber and usually fewer calories than meat, so you can eat larger portions.  Fiber contributes to a "full" feeling.

As someone else said, drink lots of fluids.  It doesn't have to be water, but don't drink a lot of soda; as the authors of "Skinny B*tch" say, it's liquid satan.  Drink water, tea, even juice (but not too much juice).

Some people do best when they have several small meals throughout the day; this may work for you.

  13. Pasta with marinara or alfredo sauce is very filling.

  14. http://www.quorn.com/
