I want to volunteer at Connecticut's Children hospital and i don't want to mess up (i will be 16 in march) so i was wondering if i could get help on some questions:

1) Please tell us why you want to make CCMC a priority?

I am going to say that i like to help people a lot, i am in a community service club at my school that i enjoy. I like hospital environments.

I think i need to put more than that though, what else can i put?

2) What qualities, skills, knowledge do you have that would make you a great volunteer?

ummm...i am not sure what to put exactly. Should i put skills i can utilize on kid,s or myself? I like biology math, volleyball, basketball, can read fluently. I like to watch football, fav team is the Giants (super bowl WIN). I don't know what else to say?

3) Describe what you hope to gain through your volunteer experience at CCMC?

Running outta space, i think i am overthinking these, but i don't want to be rejected...Thank you for all help in advance!

  1. Here are some things to think about as you write your application. You don't need to use too many ideas, just let these ideas help you figure out your own best qualities:

    1) This would be a good place to write why you chose CCMC... Perhaps mention a program or service that they do that you support. If you are not aware of the hostpital's programs and services take a look at the CCMC web site for ideas. You could also mention why you want to work with children and/or their families.

    2) Are you an organized person? Can you follow written and spoken directions? What computer programs can you use? Have you had a leadership position with any of the teams or activities you have listed? Can you write clearly? Have you ever babysat or been a youth counselor or coach for younger kids? Do you learn quickly? Do you enjoy being around kids, younger kids, babies, kids your own age? Think about the things can apply to volunteer jobs at the hospital.

    3) Talk about the things you are interested in doing in the future. Talk about the things that prompted you to apply to volunteer and how you will use the experience to further your education, explore a future career, and also why you think it is important to volunteer.

  2. 1)"I think I would be good at this work because..."

2)Get a CPR card and a First Aid card; Red Cross can help you with getting these cards. Check area colleges to see who offeres CNA courses which are not all that difficult, usually minimal cost (sometimes hospitals and facilities will pay for this type of education for you).

    3) Ask your self what you want to gain. Making an outline for a business plan would help. Chart out what you want to accomplish and what you have to do to accomplish everything. Then get out there and do what you need to do.

Best wishes, we need more people like you in medical and care field.

  3. 1.  This paragraph is fine.

    2. I am enthusiastic about life.  I like to smile and laugh, and have a good time interacting with others.

    3. I think I can help others get well quicker.  I feel that the experience will be affirming for me and others.
