Help for coping about a family member's departure for a year?

My dad left for a whole year to Korea for his job (military) purposes and I was wondering if any of your family member's left and when they came back their personality changed for the better or for the worst

My son has served two tours in Iraq and when he comes home, he is still the same person.  If your dad has been in the military for awhile, then I expect he is used to being assigned away from his family.

One thing to know is that YOU will change while he is gone, so that will be something you both need to adjust to when he comes home.
