  1. Perhaps you could try writing to government officials and asking that they support bills that protect animals natural habitats. You could also contact agencies that help endangered species, they may have suggestions for more people to write to (or specific bills to write about), ways you can help publicize the cause, or other ideas.

  2. Dear friend:

I have the answer for you! Care2.com, a community where you can get TONS of stuff done! I have a petition for the Florida Panthers up, I would be honored of you signed it and asked your friends to do the same, they are in desperate need of help,

http://www.thepetitionsite.com/takeactio... , and if you came to visit my Panther group   ( http://www.care2.com/c2c/group/FloridaPa... ), we're growing by leaps and bounds! We work for all endangered species at Care2, and take on all kinds of tasks, e-mailing, writing letters, petitions, and of course, we all belong to at least one group we donate to. I am a monthly guardian at HSUS, Defenders of Wildlife (THE BEST!), Sierra Club, and the Nature Conservancy. Come and see just how much you can do, I'm always thrilled to find someone who cares!

  4. Last fall (Sept.), on our way home, I noticed something unusual. In a pond, by a large business was a beautiful swan. From a distance it looked like a trumpeter swan. Later I learned it was a tundra swan. I thought how lovely, but a poor time of year to introduce that creature to a new area. A quarter mile later, another swan(Mute swan) wandering in the ditch. I know they mate for life and I thought they must have gotten seperated. I kept an eye on them to the point of only one being seen from the road.So I went to a feed coop and purchased a bag of corn and went down to the pond daily and fed him. The 2nd one was not to be found, alive. I later learned that this swan was attacked by a coyote or wolf on the run way of the airport. The zoo officials tried to capture it, with no sucess. So they left it to fend for itself. The 3rd one was let go in the middle of the busiest intersection in town and was retrieved safely.

I immediately called the Trumpeter Swan Assoc. and they gave me some background and told me to get in touch with the local zoo master. I did just that. He told me that  kids had taken 3 swans out of the park,( with the wings pinned, so they could not fly, they were easily taken) as a prank. No one was prosecuted, nor was it put in the local paper as a crime against  protected animals. It has happened before, only to learn they are kids of BIG name families, in a wanna-be-big medical community. He did not feel that the animal was in any danger, so it was not a big concern to retrieve the animal into safe haven, at this time.Learning they had to have permits to have the animal in the first place. I called Washington DC(Baltimore area zoo), again, and they threatened the zoo master that if they did not come within a week to get the swan into safety, they would come and get it. It was Dec. 1st and I had went thru over a ton of corn at this point. I went to feed the swan earlier than normal, but not early enough, on Dec. 7th. At 6:30 am, they came to get that beautiful creature, which I called Buddy. The zoo named him Evil~because he was mean in protecting his territory. I parked across the pond in a place I never parked before...Buddy gave the city crew a good run for their money while on water.I was cheering in my mind and crying at the same time. When they chased him onto land, he came running right for me. I was in shock and fear for Buddy. I could have opened the truck doors and he would have went right in. (My husband feared he would come home oneday, to find a large water bird in our garden tub~that thought had crossed my mind..wink wink) I continued to visit Buddy daily and take him and the other injured birds corn throughout the winter. A grand total of 2 1/2 tons of corn. Even 30 degrees below zero chill factors, on the ice that said to keep off and my will was to see it thru. He would come running as I called him by name, or make the call of a tundra swan or just the sound of our truck would bring him out of the aerorator hole and eat out of my hand. With the longer days of spring, when the ice would crack, and all the birds that could fly, would take off and leave me in a cloud of white...I will treasure every moment in  feeling I made a difference. Many visitors to the park had snapped pictures of me with all the trust of the helpless birds. One female duck~Billie Jean(she only had 1/2 a bill) would hop right into my 5 gallon bucket of corn and eat. I have named few usuals thru the long cold days of Wisconsin. No rewards are greater than perseverance. I have visited them this spring and several are with little ones. It makes me smile. The Zoo Master glares at me to this day when I come stolling thru the park to visit my old friends.

I admire your will and it will not go unrewarded! Check out the internet on the animal you would like to help and go from there.

  5. Don't worry about it.  Most of the animals that are endangered are of no practical use anyway.   They will not be missed.   Is your life affected because passenger pigeons, California Grizzly bears, or sabertooth tigers are extinct?   These endangered animals are just using up valuable oxygen and other resources that more common animals could be using.  I hope this helps.

  6. make a donation website

make a website ABOUT the animals

and ask for donations to help save them on it

there also SHOULD be a bigger group to give the

donations to that you can join

  7. Find out what species are threatened in your area.  Do what you can to protect or restore their habitat.  Grow plants they need for shelter or food.  Encourage others to do the same.
