  1. It depends on where it's gasping. If it's going to the top of the tank, that's pretty bad. Usually what it means is that the fish is not getting enough oxygen into it's blood. Are the gills expanding too far?

You need to do a 25% water change at LEAST once per week. What happens is that ammonia will get into the tank from decayed food, bad bacteria, and fish waste. A certain amount is okay, but if it gets to be too much it will form into nitrate. Again, a certain amount of that is fine, but if that gets to be too much, it will form into nitrite. Nitrite is the enemy of all aquarium owners.

Nitrite will build up in your aquarium, and it will suffocate your fish. It gets into the fishes blood stream and will not allow it to get enough oxygen. Is your fish swimming around in one area around the tank? Are the gills redder than usual? She's already gasping, so you should check it out. Does she eat as much as she normally does? Is she scratching against surfaces in the tank? These are all signs of nitrite poisoning.

What I recommend that you do is do an immediate 25% water change. You should get the following products, also:

    Stress Zyme

    Stress Coat

    Aquarium Salt

    Ammonia Clear

The Stress Zyme is a bottle of live good bactera that will eat away at the bad bactera in your tank. Stress Coat and Aquarium Salt will heal your fish, or at least let them deal with the loss of oxygen a lot better. The Ammonia Clear is a small tablet that you put in your water, and it will dissolve, getting rid of some of the ammonia.

All the chemicals combined will probably cost about $15, the Stress Zyme being the most expensive.

So when you do your water change, add in the directed amount as shown on the bottle and your fish should be as good as new in a matter of days.

Oh! And also, you should invest in a testing kit. The brand, Jungle sells a bottle of testing strips for about $11, and they work great. Or, if you're willing to drive to a local Petsmart, they test water for free.

Hope I've helped, and I hope your fish gets better.

  2. Thats normle for a fish it also signals its going through changes. or its alone and depressed.

  3. That means its dying because its not getting enough oxygen. Do you have a 20 gallon or bigger tank with a filter? And do you do water changes?

  4. they do that..alot. its normal. unless theyre doing it constantly. if they do it constantly its because there is too much ammonia in the tank and you need to do a water change.

  5. uhm....im not sure..

maybe it swollowed a pebble that was at the bottom of the tank...
