  1. ruby is the same way. she is even afraid of the dustbuster! i don't have a solution for you as i am still working through it myself -- just wanted to tell you we have the same thing going on here. :)

  2. Just have her help you push it while you vacuum  or carry her so she can see its not bad mine does the SAME thing and she is going to be 2 and my son is 5 and still jumps on the couch

they will grow out of it

  3. Try talking to her about what a vacuum is. Let her touch it and explore it. Explain to her what it does. Try letting her vacuum with it to let her see that it isnt so scary. Before you decide to vacuum, let her know that you are planning on doing it. Offer to let her help you, or you could buy her a toy vacuum of her own that she could use with you.

  4. Both of my girls did the same thing. I introduced them to the vacuum and let them touch it so they knew it was nothing to be scared of. I also bought them a kids vacuum and let them vacuum with me. Good luck! I hope I was of some help.

  5. At that age loud noises are a valid fear... our daughter was the same way.  She remembers that the vacuum makes a horrible noise so even when it's off it's still scary.  What we did is have her go into another room.  Then later when she is less startled you can work her up to it and ask her if she wants to help mommy.  You can also get her a play vacuum and show her how it works.  Our daughter is no longer scared and she can even play with her robot toy which used to freak her out!

It will get better just be patient and know that if she is really scared it will make things worse if you push it.

    Blessings :)

  6. my son is 20 months old now, but when he was your daughters age, he HATED the vaccum!!!.. he'd SCREAM! I bought him the little vaccum by Fisher Price laugh and learn (he still has it!) and whenever i needed to use the vaccum he went to get his to "help" mommy.. he soon stopped the screaming!

  7. It is considered typical to be afraid of loud noises to a point.  Children till the age of 6 have an immature CNS, therefore an immature sensory system.  Consider having her screened for early childhood intervention, she may qualify for free services (OT) for sensory.  If she doesn't you will at least know for free where her development is.

  8. SHE WILL GET USED TO IT .BUY HER A CHILDS SIZE VACUUM CLEANER THAT MAKES NOISE AND LET HER USE IT WITH YOU.

  9. My daughters the same, i brought one of the miniture vacuums, she pushes it along and it makes noises. now when i go to hoover she gets hers out to and she doesnt fear it anymore!
