Hi all,

I have 2 Indian green parrots Sruthi and Preethi.

Sruthi is male with black ring around the neck who is 5 years old, healthy, talkative, social and naughty. We got her when it fell down in my back yard at very young age of 1 month like that due to heat in Indian summer. After 1 year or so to accompany her I bought Preethi (female) from the pet shop. She is nearly 3-31/2 years.

When i bought Preethi she is fine with full of feathers and healthy looking. Sruthi and Preethi also became friends and get along with each other. Though some times they fight. After she came home next day she want to come out of the cage and let her got some scratch on her body. We stopped her blood flow and taken to vet. But they are not really proficient with avian. But he tried to help us and given some normal antibiotic for that. After that she started loosing her feathers, became bald and started limping. Now she couldn't walk properly, very bald, don't talk at all, not sociable( but some time she communicate with her eyes and screeching, we understand what she wants).

They don't live in cage( though they have cage). They rome around the house together and destruct what ever they see. Mostly Preethi initiate the destruction. I need help with Preethi for her behavior, baldness and limping. We don't have good avian doctor in our city(Guntur, India).

  1. They need to be in an enclosure (cage) if you are not watching them.  If they get hold of an electrical cord it could kill them. (happened to a friend's quaker) If she is plucking her own feathers out it is usually because she feels stressed and it is a very difficult habit to break in most birds.  Follow a set routine with the birds (as much as possible).  Keep them in the cage at the same times each day, handle them at the same times each day, Change their food and water at the same times each day this will help the birds stress level.

The limp would concern me but I am not a vet.
