We intend to travel from 6th May - 12th May and has the following plans:-

1.Not yet able to decide between Orion Apartment ,Mystery Apartment in Interlaken,Hotel Sohn and Rugenpark BnB.Can anyone help from previous stays in any of them?

2.This is our planned itinery

a) Reach Zurich in 6th May 2008 6.45 am.Depart Zurich to interlaken by train.

b)7th May 2008 - Jungfraujoch trip+Lautterbern(To see the waterfall) from interlaken by train.return the same day.

c)8th MAy 2008 - Zermat from interlaken .(Same day return)

d)9th May 2008 -Interlaken to Lucern + Beatus caves (Same day return)

e)10th May 2008 -Montrauz panoramic train from interlaken.

f)11th May 2008 - Last day shopping in Interlaken, not sure where though

Is this itinery possible by swiss travel system from Interlaken?

How much will it cost?

Which travel pass should we take?

Is this underdone? Can we actually visit more places?

Kindly advice on all or whichever issues u could.

Thank you so much.It means a lot to us.

  1. Our Goddess here :-) is telling you the truth, you can rely on what she says. To complete the information, here is a link to the prices for the Swiss railway pass that she recommended:

About clothing: May is usually mild in Switzerland, although never as warm as Dubai. I know what I'm talking about, I have been in your town already back in the seventies. So, besides warm clothing (especially needed if you go the higher regions), light summer clothing will suffice in the plains of the country (Zurich, Lucerne).

Happy travelling in the Land of the Helvets! Just don't forget to send us a postcard from the various sites ;-)

  2. Can't help you with the hotels.

    a) Reach Zurich in 6th May 2008 6.45 am.Depart Zurich to interlaken by train.

Not sure what you have in mind here. It's only 2 hours, 15 minutes by train, so you definitely have time to do things on the way, either look around Zurich, or stop off in Bern or Lucerne. You can have your bags sent ahead for you so you don't have to lug them around (though they might not get there before the following day, so don't send everything).

b)7th May 2008 - Jungfraujoch trip+Lautterbern(To see the waterfall) from interlaken by train.return the same day.

    Worth doing.

c)8th MAy 2008 - Zermat from interlaken .(Same day return)

I find Zermatt an odd day-trip; you'll only barely have time to go up to Kleine Matterhorn (if that's your plan) and come back down, or look around the town for a few hours (which is nice). IMHO the best reason to go to Zermatt is to watch the sun rise over the Matterhorn, which you can't on a day-trip in May.

d)9th May 2008 -Interlaken to Lucern + Beatus caves (Same day return)

Cool, I've never been to the Beatus caves, but I do think Lucerne & area is worth a whole day. The Beatus caves are only 20 minutes from Interlaken, so I'd do that as a mini-trip at some other point. (One option would be if you give Zurich and Bern a miss on Day 1 and head straight to Interlaken, check out the caves that afternoon.)

e)10th May 2008 -Montreux (right?) panoramic train from interlaken.

Absolutely! Also consider a lake cruise on Lake Geneva and/or a visit to Chateau Chillon with that.

f)11th May 2008 - Last day shopping in Interlaken, not sure where though

forget it. Take a boat trip on the Brienzersee instead.

Is this itinery possible by swiss travel system from Interken?

Yes, and the boats are included.

How much will it cost? Which travel pass should we take?

8-day Swiss Pass, but I can't find the price. There's a supplement for the panorama trains.

Is this underdone? Can we actually visit more places?

I would consider switching it so you go to Zermatt on your second-last day and stay over there. Interlaken itself is not very interesting, although it's a good place to stay just because it's so central. The lakes it is "inter" are gorgeous, particularly Brienzersee.
