Is it wise to disclose your reserve price (eg. motor vehicle) to bidders who request the reserve price?

If not, what reason do I give them?

  1. I never do. Just tell them it is a reserve prices and you do not want to disclose it.

  2. I see no reason not to give it; however in todays climate you will be luckey to sell it.

  3. It's up to you.  I never know why the reserve is hidden.  If I see something with more than 1 bid and it has 'Reserve not met' unless it's something I'm particularly looking for I jsut move onto the next item, it's not going to be a bargain.

  4. Never put a reserve price, cos you have to pay extra, just do what I open a few other accounts, put on low, bid and and have your friends bid! Very simple

  5. Of course not, the whole idea of the reserve price is to see what people are willing to pay. If you have decided on a reserve then it must be the minimum price you wish to sell for, if they consider that they need the item then they should be willing to match it at the least without you telling them.

  6. I would tell them what the reserve price is.

If they ask you if you would sell it at the reserved price, then politely tell them that you would leave the auction run it's course, and you won't end the auction early.

  7. it depends. Sometimes people dont bid at all if there is a reserve, so it can be counterproductive to add one. If you tell them the reserve but dont post it on the site, they may bid that amount, and you would have a sale.

Horses for courses, but depends on how realistic the reserve is.
