Help from anyone whos had a Palatal Expander?!?!!?

in the back of mine on the left side the edge was hitting the roof of my mouth... now a couple weeks into it, the left side in the back is swelled and i hit it with a tooth brush and it started to bleed.... now a off white color sort of thing is right along the edge of the PE and the swelling... im not sure if the off white thing is a scab or what.. but (kinda gross) i was brushing my teeth and i decide to brush it hard and it came off and started bleeding now theres another offwhite thing covering... so will someone tell me whats going on? has this happen to any one else??... by the way i called the dentist and asked her what to do about swelling and she said rinse with salt water like it was no big deal... but i didnt mention the white thing.

WIthout seeing it,  it's hard to be sure,  but it sounds like some food or bacteria may have gotten stuck by your back band,  and caused some irritation and swelling to your gums.    If a bit of an infection resulted,  you may have gotten either a blister,   or a scab type of thing,  which is probably what the white patch was.    

In either event,  don't wait too long to see the dentist, so she can either clean out the stuck food and debris,   or adjust the bands so they stop irritating your gums.     Mentioning the white patch should get you in faster to see your dentist.

I had a palatal expander,

and they were supposed to make a model thing of your teeth to fit your mouth perfectly.

so, it shouldnt be like that.

How long have you had the expander?  If you just got it it may not be fitting right and need to get adjusted.  In the meantime take it easy with the toothbrush and  continue to rinse with salt water and try to make an appointment to see the dentist soon to see about getting it checked out.
