  1. I've had the same problem as you last year- EVERY business in my city is hiring, and there is such a ridiculous job shortage, but it took me a month to get a summer job.  And yeah, I have the straight A's and even previous job experience, yet I ended up in fast food.

The thing I recommend for you is to bring your resume with you, always, and when you're applying, ask for the manager.  If you give the resume right to them, they'll know that you're serious about the job and they will probably remember you better.  It also gives them the chance to ask questions about you beforehand.  I did that this year, and I got a job at the first place I applied, in a pharmacy!

I hope this helps, and good luck with the job search!

  2. Mall job.  McDonald's will tend to hire any one, that was my first job of course.  Ripe age of 14.  I would say talk to your friends with jobs and see if they could you on there.  Also, you could always do some volunteer work for a few months.  This not only helps your cause and makes you feel good about yourself, but it also offers your potential employeer a little insight into your work ethic.

You might be not getting the job call back if you put a wage in the desired wage section.  We all want to work above minimum wage, but you might try putting NEGO. instead of a number.  It makes them feel like you just aren't there for the money but the experience.

I got my first job at McDonald's because I knew most of the managers and my brothers worked there.  But my second job was through a friend and then the last two jobs I just kept applying.

  3. I'd say the best job for you would probably be a job at a grocery store. You get benefits and you get to enroll in a 401k program (I talking about major chain stores).

I used to have a job at a grocery store from the ages of 19-23, when I applied, I just kept bugging the manager. I would even go to the store and ask for him...that showed determination.

I never did the fast food thing. You don't get paid enough for all the work you do, and on top of that, you go home smelling like "biggie fries"!

  4. after a day you applied, try calling THEM about your application.

  5. Couple of questions for you...what do you like to do? Do you have any interests? There is a great article on “doing what you know” at the first link I provided below.

If you have any particular skill, such as web design or cartooning, you could look on craigslist for some gigs.

Also, you could start your own business. There are plenty of sites out there that would get you started in the right direction. The site i have listed below provides ideas, tips and kits.
