Ok I need som serious help with this, I'm 23 soon to be 24 on June 7th. Anyways I've never been on a rollecoaster and I know its pathetic but they scare me, I don't like that they go upside down and really high I'm scared of highest. And I'm going to six flags great america here in illinois with my sister this summer to ride the Dark Knight indoor coaster, and I'm a little scared to. So all I want to know is if they ok and fun because they scare the c**p out of me. I came close to riding the cobra rollercoaster but as soon as I got into the little car thing I freaked out and chickened out and got off before the ride started so I just want to know what I should do to calm my nerves down before going on any rollercoaster.

  1. I used to be scare of rollercoasters too. But just calm down close your eyes, and think about fun and happy things. An don't be scared because they're totally safe, otherwise people wouldn't get on them (: So just close your eyes and ENJOY THE RIDE, it'll be over before you know it

  2. just be calm, think happy thoughts, close your eyes. its really fun when your actually on it, just the first time is really scary!

you'll want to ride more rollercoasters over and over and over again!

  3. Well I recently went to Six Flags and it was my first time going on a rollercoaster, too. I was soo scared, but I was soo happy I went when I was done. It was SO much fun! It was probably the most fun I've had in a really long time. Unlike most fears, this one might be fun to face. :) I'm sure you'll love it. Just enjoy yourself!

  4. Grow up! lol j/k

Just think of it this way the sooner you get on the ride the faster it will be over. They strap you in and do routine checks on the rides, so you know that your going to be fine. So just face your fears and once you do i'm sure you'll have fun because i was the same way before, but now i love roller coaster rides. So go and show those rides who's the boss

  5. rollercoasters are the best

i do have allot of friends who were just like you

if you are scarred just think...

like 1000's of people go on rollercoasters a day

only a few have ever gotten hurt an that is only because they have sevre medical conditions

just dont be scarred they ar the funnest

i am going to knottsberrry farm in southern california with my school for an 8th grade field trip

i have never ever gotten even a little bit scarred going on rollercoasters

just remember you wont get hurt and they are sooooooooo much fun

    good luck

    and happy almost birthday :)

  6. I am really scared too of roller coasters but I do it anyway cuz my husband likes them:

When I went to Santa Cruz I was really scared the whole time I was in line and I almost didn't do it but then I seen a bunch of kids like 8 getting off and I thought hey if they could do it I can! So I guess if you really want to try it you should but if you aren't ready you should wait until you are more confident.

  7. just start small. no one can make you go on if you don't wanna but you will never no what its like until you try. just breathe in and out when in line and sitting in the car waiting for the ride to start and sit next to someone you no well and squeeze their hand. push the bar down extra tight so it doesn't bounce around when your on the ride. just think about how proud you will be. you will be able to say that you did it. and the best thing is if you don't like it you never have to go on again!

Good Luck and Just HAVE FUN! :)

  8. get on with some one tell them your scared hold their hand dont close your eyes that makes it worst and try the smallest first and make your way up and the dark knight coasters isnt scary

  9. I love roller coasters but i'm afraid of heights so i know what you mean. And believe me you will have fun after.

When you get on, push your head back on the head rest of the roller coaster seat if it has one. Then with your arms put them on the bar infront of you and just push back...that will help smooth it out.

if its not like that then just hold on and hang on, it honestly wll be over before you know, they last like 15 seconds.

    Good luck and have fun

  10. I used to be scared to death of roller coasters. Like people would force me on but I would get off at the last minute. But finally I was like oh well what do I have to lose. && I went on it and it was the funnest thing ever. Just relax cause once you go down that first hill or go upside down your having a blast && you feel like 4839038048309849 times better when you hold on super super tight. <3

  11. It's all in your head.  Just realize that thousands of people have ridden this ride before you and emerged victorious without a scratch.  Maybe some messed up hair and a funny way of walking but no bodily harm.

Also even if you died just remember that atleast if looked ****ing awesome.

Part of the fun of roller coasters is the thrill.  Deep inside everyones scared of heights.  We basically just tease our fears for fun.  So you're not alone.

    Take care, love

  12. get on and close your eyes and when you start moving open your eyes and look straight. its OK to yell everyone does it. once your off you can say you did it and you will want to ride it again

  13. Don't be scared.  I remember when I went on my first roller coaster.  I still remember when I went on the Mega Drop!  It wasn't scary!  The girl next to me was almost your age.  She was scared.  She began to talk to me, then, I guess she felt better.  She did what you should do.  Talk to somebody next to you on the roller coaster to calm your nerves.  That's what she did.  I still remember it.  It was the day I was at the fair with my cousins.  That was a while ago.  It was my favorite day.  Alright!

  14. just think, it will be over before you know it.

eat cotton candy before :D SUGAR.

    haha.

just pretend its all a dream, and you'll wake up at any moment

  15. We live in a day with reimbursement codes, where every product containing discreet markers is readily traceable by science.

This has been made possible by those who go SPLAT.

Relax. Science and governments haven't been infiltrated by 60's based atheistic conclusions, nor are the two enabled by new potent technologies.

    Get on and have fun.

    .

  16. Just remember that if you do not go on you will never forgive yourself and you will have to live with that thought haunting you for the rest of your life and you will therefore probably never take any risks and never go anywhere in life or have any fun and you will fail at life completely if you do not go a roller coaster.

oh yea they are totally fun too!

  17. Go on the ride "after" you use the restroom, and "before" you

    eat your lunch.

With millions of people doing it every year, and some people

going on it over and over. It is worth the excitement.

Just don't be "holding" somebody's arm, you may "tear it off."

  18. well i guess its fun but ull get use to it cause when i was 10 i rode the Viper in Six Flags it was really scary but i only think about happy thoughts like my girl freind, family or anything u like and make sure you dont look down lol i got scared when i looked down =P

  19. i used to hate roller coaster when i was scare i simple sit in and hold tigths while keep eye close whole ride. u will felt something but see nothing. after awhile try peek then u will see how fun it is!

Also i hate height big time. i cant even get on roof 1 story house i'm 29 :-p

  20. I waited until i was 17 to ride my 1st just close your eyes the 1st go round then try it open its so much fun once you get over your fear

  21. lol i remember my first roller coast ride, was making exuses all the way while waiting in a line! my friends encouraged me to go on it though told me to hang tight but close your eyes when ur about to do a backflip ride =) still its fun =D for comfort just grab onto the seats that act like a seatbelt lol!

and have fun! u'll love it!

  22. I went on the dark knight the other day.  it isnt that scary for a rollercoaster, but if you want advice; ride whizzer first, then demon, then dark knight.  its a good way to build your way up.

  23. honestly im terrified of roller coasters but i will go on them. First go on a little one, one that does not go upside down or very high, then just go at your own pace, and if you dont want to go on it you can be the person who takes pictures for the scrap book, some people might answer this question saying your a wuss but your not , your just not comfortable on a little car going up 3000feet and then dropping you whille spinning at 150 mph while only being held by 10 screws, do whatever you feel comfortable doing.

  24. Don't be scared.. They scare me too :)   What I usually do is I get a friend to force me onto the rollercoaster because I want to get on but I'm a bit afraid too. SO I have my friend make me get on and I stay on and I can't get off. Then it ends up being a lot of fun so just jump on there and tell yourself there is nothing to be scared of. GO FOR IT!!

  25. Find something that calms your nerves that you can do regularly.  Do it whenever you get nervous (not just on the rollercoasters) and that will trigger your brain to calm down whenever you are nervous (like when you are on a rollercoaster).  Always remember to breathe when you're on a rollercoaster.  It makes things easier.  Take deep breaths before.  Remember: start out small, because if you get the c**p scared outta you on a big one, you're not going to find it a pleasant experience.  Good luck and hope I helped.  Have fun!!

  26. There are only a few reasons to actually ride a roller coaster but not like it:

    1.  If it goes high, but your afraid of heights.  Afterwords you'll feel better but you might want to avoid this at first.

    2.  If it's rough, like a wooden roller coaster.  Definitely start out with metal roller coasters.

    3.  If it's too wild, like twists and stuff.  Start out with one that just has some simple banks and maybe one loop.

Having said that, as you can tell a majority of people who ride roller coasters like them.

  27. first of all, try not to think about it.  The only fun part of roller coasters is the fact that they scare u so much.  At least that's what i think.  When ever i go to an amusement park I am always really nervous to ride the first ride, but after that i am fine.  try a medium roller coaster first.  one that doesn't go in loops or anything, but isn't a kiddy ride.  After that, if u found that fun, then try something more adventurous.  I personally think roller coasters are insanely fun.

  28. I used to be scared of rollercoasters too when I was little, but my parents made me go on California Screaming in California Adventures when I was 7 years old! I was crying and so scared, but I just did it, and when it was over I wanted to go again right away! Even though your scared, just realize that nothing is going to go wrong, there are tons of people on this ride with you and they always have fun, and just embrace it! And I know this may sound weird, but holding your sister's hand will help too.

    Have fun!!

  29. drugs...

Just kidding, of course!  The first time I ever got on a roller coaster, the guy in the line in front of me told me to yell as loud as I could.  I thought he was nuts.  He ended up in  the same car sitting next to me.  Over the first hill I nearly lost my breath!  He nudged me and repeated,YELL, so I did, and it was awesome!  Apparently something happens when you open your mouth and force air out of it,  to keep you from hyperventilating.  I giggled and yelled over every bump, and he got tickled and said, "Maybe you don't have to yell THAT loud"...   I found out after that ride that he was attempting to break the world record on the number of rides in a day.  He had ridden over 100 times before I saw him.

    Suggestions:

Remember that a roller coaster is driven by the energy it gets from the first hill.  It only picks up speed when it loops, which gives it more energy to keep going.  If you find a coaster that has no loops, each hill will give less and less thrust, and you won't  feel as anxious by the time you finish the entire ride, which is usually less than a minute!

If you are still nervous, grab your young niece or nephew (or offer to sit with someone who has a small child) and go on the kiddie coaster where you can get used to the way it moves, and it won't be obvious that you are there because you are scared of the big one.

Don't eat or drink anything at least a half hour before riding, though, you might lose it...and make sure you use the restroom!  lol

Make sure your sister knows that you will probably hold her so tight that she'll lose the circulation in her hands....

Yell, scream ,and giggle, it helps you to breathe!

I hope you have a wonderful time, and this trip becomes a happy memory for you!  And Happy Birthday!

If I may, I'd like to add something here.  Don't feel that you HAVE to go on the coaster if you are that frightened.  No one will make you go, and no one should ridicule you if you don't.  There are many who have gone through life without having even seen an amusement park, and it's not a necessary thing.  If you really don't want to go on the coaster, just say so, and expect your dear family to honor your decision. And have fun no matter what.  You can stand on the sidelines and say a cheer to those who ride, offer funny stickers and awards to the survivors, and have snacks ready for them when they are done!

  30. you could close your eyes, think the rollercoaster is going to be more scary then when you go on it you would expect more so it won't feel that scary or go less scary rollercoasters then go on that is slightly more scary then keep on going on slightly more scary rollercoasters by doing this you might get use to going scary rollercoasters. Also before going on a rollercoasters take deep breath that might work.

  31. Before getting on a roller coaster if i get nervous i just try not to think about it and think of other things. When your on the ride if on the ride though if you close your eyes and again think of something else and hold onto the safety bars or what ever is there then that helps a lot.

Also before getting on just think: I'll be okay nothing is going to go wrong and if i don't like it i won't do it again.
