  1. The answer to your question depends on if you are in high school or college. If you are in high school, you should be taking college preparatory classes so that you can get into at least a 2-year college, or perhaps a full 4-year college for a bachelors degree in special education. The college programs and courses depend on your focus area of disability groups.

If you are looking to be a personal care attendant or work in a group home, you may want to look up at least one in your area, and schedule an informational interview with the director. Ask questions like:

What jobs do the workers do here at this facility?

What kind of training is required for each of these jobs?

What type of skills are needed to be able to work with people with disabilities? (Such as patience, communication skills, etc.)

You could ask your guidance counselor or advisor for a career inventory that would give information about jobs with people with disabilities and ask what classes should be taken in order to train and then qualify for those positions.
