  1. in dallas texas we have a non profit called the DFW WILDLIFE COALITION

they take care of all local wild animals from birds to rattle snakes

look for a similar one in your area or call them and see if they can point you in the right direction before its too late

  2. You should have left it alone.  The mother bird would have found it on the ground and cared for it there.  Now it has your smell on it and it's a goner.

Call the local animal shelter.  You don't want the baby in the house.  It might have bugs that you can't get rid of!

  3. Just leave it, it's mother should come looking for it, but if it's touched by a human it's likely to be totally abandoned by it's mum.

  4. MsLucy is right.  The bird is a fledgling.  It is supposed to be on the ground.  Please leave it alone - everything is just fine.

Baby birds leave the nest (fledge) before they can fly.   They have to learn to fly from the ground, not the nest.

There is no need to rescue fledglings or put them back in a nest.  If they are found in a dangerous spot (like a road), they can be moved a very short distance to a safer spot, but it must be within view of the original location.

You are right - birds have no sense of smell.  They cannot smell humans and will not reject a baby that has been touched.   You must stay out of the area, however, as the parents will avoid predators - including you.

    Please leave the bird alone.

  5. leave it on its own, but be careful its not hurt.

  6. If the bird is fully feathered, it is most likely a fledgling and has left the nest on it's own and it's parents are caring for it. It is normal for birds to leave the nest before they can fly.   You need to replace it where you found it..preferably in a scrub or tree so it is relatively safe from predators, and the parents should come back to feed it.  If it is unfeathered...then look for a nest and if you can find it...replace it into the nest.  Do not worry about your scent being on the chick..birds have a very poorly developed sense of smell and will NOT reject a baby that has been touched.  If you cannot find a nest, get the bird to a local wildlife rehab for it's best chance of survival.  Also, keep in mind, it is illegal for you to try and raise this bird on your own.  Look for a rehab here:

  7. please put the bird back in the same area that you found it.  If it has feathers, it is a fledgling, and the parents care for it on the ground.  it learns to fly from the ground.
