Help how can a get a faster mile?

im on track after two meets my mile times are 5.43 and 5.37

i want to take of 20 seconds or more what can i do besides run

like would ankle weights help or ab work

  1. Abs would definitely help, they are the second most used muscles when running.

    Conditioning is obviously a big deal when it comes to distance running, but you also can't underestimate strength training. It will help your overall endurance an give your legs more strength to push at the end.

    Speed training would also be very helpful, doing sprints can help with your fast twitch muscles and can help put more power into your strides thus making you faster
