  1. You would have to Obedience train him. Leaving a dog in a yard is always taking a chance. All it would take would be a cat across the street, the dog takes off and there is a car, end of story.  Get a fence then your dog will be always safe.  If he is a little dog and you want him in the front yard, get a chain link fence. Don't take chances

  2. Its simple, train him! Keep treats on you at all times and every time he starts to stray off say "_____ come" and give him a treat, that way he will learn to stay around you. After a while just say "no" in a low voice if he starts to wander too far. If your dog is too much of a crazy pup to chance this on, than get him a retractable leash. That way if he gets too far just stop him, he will learn being around you is the best thing for him to do.

Some of the best trained dogs wont say put if they see a squirrel though.

    Good Luck.

  3. You can get a fence.  My brother took my dog, on leash, around the perimeters of our property numerous times, daily, until we felt comfortable to take her leash off.  She has only left twice and came back when called.  Of course, I would personally never do this because it won't work with all dogs.  This was my stupid dad's idea.

  4. It's a simple answer "Get A Fence" duh.

  5. you can put in an electric fence.  where the wire is buried and a collar lets him know not to cross.  you can fence in your yard.  or you can spend a lot of time training him to stay with you in the yard.

  6. Fences work well.  Don't be jealous of something so trivial.  Not all dogs are going to stay, it depends on age, breed and training.

  7. Get a fence or spend countless hours and days training your dog to stay in the yard and not run away when left untied.

Dogs don't just magically listen and follow the rules.

It also helps if your dog is fixed, they are less likely to roam looking for a mate.

  8. No reason to get jealous. Buy a fence if you want your dog to stay in the yard. They probably have an invisible fence, but they're putting their dogs at risk by using it (possible for batteries to fail, dogs bolt through, keeps nothing out of the yard, etc.)

  9. My have three dogs, and two of them can do that, but the other one will take off like a rocket! It just depends on the breed, age, and training of the dog.

  10. well, my personal opinion is when you have a dog, they are a member of the family. NOT a garden gnome. If you are jealous because a dog stays in the yard, then get a fence. a high one, and not the chain link kind because dogs can climb those.

  11. Get a fence.

  12. I'd recommend an invisible fence.  You can buy  the kits at most of the major discount stores for under $100.  They're easy to install and very effective.  I have three dogs and my girlfriend loves to have me bring them to her house which sits on it a few acres of open land.  I just lay the  fence out on top of the ground and it becomes very effective containment.  It's probably better to bury it but it will work either way.  I have been using them for years and if done according to the directions they'll contain almost any dog in a safe humane fraction.
