  1. Try switching to a heavier litter.  We used a paper-based litter and it got everywhere but when we switch to wood-based it stays in the tray.

There isn't much you can do about the smell except frequent litter changes and washing the tray once a week with soap and water and a spray from the pet store that gets rid of the odor.  You could also keep an air-freshener by it to cover the smell a bit and use a bit of spray whenever it is used.

  2. I'm not surprised she is getting litter everywhere, she must be bored to death, shut in there on her own all night. She needs more space, cos cats are very active during the night, and safe toys to play with. To solve the litter problem, get a small litter tray and stand it inside a bigger litter tray to catch the bits. Make sure your kitten can get in of course. But do remember that the kitten needs something to keep her amused while you are asleep.

  3. if you go to pet smart they have kitty boxes with lids and doors to help with the smell. what i have found to be the best is just to use high quality litter like tidy cats clumping litter and clean the box every day. the longer it sits in the box the more it dries and smells. also, the covered litter box will keep her from shoveling out the litter everywhere (mine do it too). I would suggest starting to leave the bathroom door open for her though, cats don't like to be confined like that and will cause stress to a kitten, specially because she is so young and needs the comfort of her family. Good luck to you!

  4. i clean my litter only when the kitten poos and then change the stones every week, then if u take out the poo itll smell normal. and as for keeping litter in the trey.broom it every now and again

  5. Bye one of those litter boxes with covers.  You can find them at kmart.  Also buy some litter that has scent, the ones with the crystals.  If that still doesnt work, keep some airfreshner by the litter and spray it on the litter once in a while.

  6. Sounds like the kitten is bored. Being locked in the bathroom doesn't give her much to do. Other then beat up the toilet paper or kick kitty litter around. You could try putting toys in the bathroom for her to play with. A deep litter pan with about an inch or two of kitty litter in it will help. You can cut the odour by adding baking soda to the litter. You don't need to add a lot but it helps a lot. Hope this helps. Also buying the scented, scoopable litter makes things a lot easier. Just don't flush the scoopable litter down the toilet or you will end up with major plumbing problems. I keep a separate pail with a lid for this purpose.

  7. Take a clean cardboard box, and cut a "door" in it, place it over the litter box with the door facing out so the cat can still get in and out, and she wont be able to spread litter around quite as much. She'll still drag some out with her when she climbs out, but it wont be nearly as bad.

  8. Why dont you put a lid over the litter box, like you know one of those carrier lids you put your pets in? And you can just buy the litter on tv that does not make litter smell.....

  9. Try a litter mat, it works like a charm. Get one that is bigger than the litter box, and put the litter box right on top of the mat. When the cat walks out, his/her paws get cleaned on the mat, which traps the littler granules.
