music (can't play instrument though)

sport (swimming, basketball,tennis, gymnastics)

psychology (human behaviour)

biology

sort of interested in forensic psychology and science

i like animals

woodwork and clay making

making things (friendship bands) just very practical stuff

interested in languages and culture ( would love a career that had opportunities in travelling)

teaching in general

like reading to a certain extent depends on subject though

what do you think i could study or would be a suitable career

  1. Since you already know what you like, can you see yourself in a career doing any of these things for 10-20 or more years? How about this? Spend time enjoying your hobbies (art, music, sports, woodworking and clay making, making practical things, and reading things you enjoy). Volunteer at a vet's or animal shelter. Play your sports for exercise (why shouldn't exercise be fun?). Learn languages and travel. Maybe you could be a substitute teacher. That leaves biology and psychology. Do you want to be a biologist or maybe teach biology? What about being a forensics scientist? There are various opportunities in the psychology field (different types of psychologists, psychiatrist, social worker, etc.). You could pursue one of them or teach psychology. Do you know your personality type? Some personality types are better suited to certain careers. http://www.humanmetrics.com/cgi-win/JTyp... Then Google the four letters. The portrait of the ESTP, let's say, has a link for careers for an ESTP. What can you see yourself doing and really enjoying? Research the careers you're considering. Does one strike you as more appealing? Remember, just about any job has some unglamorous aspects. Ultimately, the decision is yours. Spend time really thinking about who you are and what you want to do with your life. Since you'll need more schooling, why not start with a community college and get the general required classes out of the way? That will buy you some time. Best wishes!

  2. Teaching is always in demand, and gives you a general education.  Once you have that degree, you can teach, or move into industry.  I know teachers that are heads of HR departments, work overseas.  Nursing is also another such profession that is very transferable.  Nurses work in hospitals, dr. offices, schools, industry, overseas, etc.

  3. why dont you start with a social science college course - or do a social science degree at uni - before or after you travel. follow your heart

  4. I think you should go with your first thought, travel! There would be knowlegde from travelling that you could not get from school. Also most people need a job to pay for bills. So if you dont have any bills you dont need that much money. Going to college is no automatic success story and you end up leaving with debt. Dont get me wrong college will enhance your life , but like anything in this world, its what you make of it.

Travel for a spell, go see some the wonders of this world, and get some training on some of your interest.Pick something that you would do for free as your career. Is not working if you love what you do!!!

I wish i could go travel right out of high school, i would do that over!!

Good fortune to you in all your endeavors

  5. Why do you say uni may not be for you, then say you're interested in interesting things?

    That's what uni is FOR.

In the US, you have to take a lot of classes in a lot of fields ("General Education" requirements -- about 2 year's worth). If that's the same for you (I gather you're in the UK, as we don't say 'uni' over here), then you'll get a good sense of a lot of different areas.

Don't think it's going to be more of the same as you've had. It's different than high school (at least, it was for me, over here, long, long ago).

You can study just about everything you list as your interests.

And you can either not declare a major, or change your major later, so you needn't decide until you've gotten a better idea of what's out there, and which you really love most.

Psych and anthropology sound like a great mix, to me. You'd get very different perspectives on who and what we are, and what can be done to make things better. Having a good grounding in both approaches would make a good, interesting approach to antrhopology (which would likely involve travel).

I don't know the kinds of stuff you have read in high school, but over here, the texts are dry and uninformative; in college, you more often read real books.
