  1. i agree with the first answer

  2. Well first of all, you need to stop being negative about it. This is something that you chose to do, you're never going to last if you're not happy with your own decision. Don't look at it  as you being restricted from it, because you're not, you chose not to eat it.  Except for wheat,

Anyways, your lacto-ovo vegetarian diet only has 3 chosen 'restrictions'. And one actual restriction. Everything else you can eat. This means fruits, legumes, nuts, veggies, wheat-free bread, bagels, waffles, dairy, egg, chocolate, cookies (and other sweets), vegetarian soups, bean and cheese burritos, vegetarian enchiladas, cheese and veggie pizza (made without wheat), mock meat, etc

There's a lot of wheat-free grains out there, you just have to look for them because you're not alone.

There's sooo much that you can eat. I'd be here all day if I listed all of it.

Good luck. Remember, they aren't restrictions, you're choosing not to eat them.

  3. Well, the main things you should be eating are fresh, organic fruits and veggies.  Make green smoothies for breakfast (1cup frozen or fresh berries, 1 whole peeled orange, 2 big handfuls of fresh baby spinach and a little water if needed, blend well and enjoy!), enjoy a nice platter of raw or steamed veg or a big green salad for lunch.  Try brown rice or quinoa and beans for dinner.

    Or try one of these:

    Brown rice pasta

    Quinoa pilaf

Here are some other wheat/gluten substitutions:

There are lots of wheat/gluten free staples like crackers, tortillas and breads available at your local natural foods market.

Read labels and EAT MORE FRESH FOODS!!!

  4. A lot of Amy's frozen meals are gluten free. If you go to Whole Foods they also have a gluten free section with vegetarian/ vegan foods.

  6. Chocolate!!xD        Fruit,vegetables,eggs,pancakes,crazy Cakes,tofu,soy milk/beans/yogurt,chips,potatoes...You have a lot more than that! =)

  7. Check with your Physician or go to a Health/Organics Food Store, they have alot of books and other info. that can point you into the right direction.

    Good Luck!

  8. Most vegetarian do not eat anything with rennet or gelatin anyway.  That's easy enough to do.  I buy cheese made with vegetable rennet (cabot brands have a few that are animal rennet free).  There is much more to a vegetarian diet than wheat and you dont have that many diet restrictions.

    Other suggestions:

    Brown rice

Quinoa (comes in many forms that includes pasta)

    Vegetables

    Legumes (beans)

    Nuts

Non wheat breads (I buy 100% whole rye bread)

Just google wheat free vegetarian recipes..there are thousands of them.

  9. Just avoid wheat, really it is harder to have everything in your diet, then to miss something, read ingedents and you should be fine.

  10. There are plenty of options.  First of all, are you celiac, or is it just wheat that you're allergic to?  Some people can eat gluten-containing foods (such as oats) but not wheat, while others have to go all gluten-free.  Find out which one you are and Google "wheat free" or "gluten free" vegetarian.

I think both quinoa and millet are gluten-free grains.  They both make excellent pilafs.

Tropical Source makes gluten free vegan chocolate chips.

Amy's Kitchen, as someone else mentioned, is all vegetarian and egg-free.  You can go to the website and search for wheat/gluten-free items.

Nana's makes gluten-free cookies, as does Sunflour Baking Company.  Larabar and Nectar (by Clif) are also wheat-free; they're just fruit and nuts.  Luna Bar appears to be wheat free, but not gluten free.

Check out some raw foods sites--they will likely be gluten free as well.

    Good luck!

  11. is the wheat thing the same as gluten?  my friend is a vegetarian and she needs to eat gluten free now.... she uses a lot more tofu and beans and nuts now since she can't really eat the veggie burgers anymore bc of the gluten... i think you should get some cook books specifically made for wheat free diets and being a vegan... i know stores near me are starting to sell a lot more gluten free items so maybe you can have those.... you'll probably end up having to make a LOT more of your own foods at home...

  12. I'm a vegetarian (also don't eat rennet or gelatine) and my girlfriend has coeliacs disease. It is VERY rare that we find anything that we can BOTH eat so good luck to you!

Avoid eating wheat though. It will make your condition worse and will cause severe damage to your intestines as well as increasing your risk of other diseases. My only advice would be that if you're in the UK, get officially diagnosed with coeliacs NOW so that you can get the wheat free food on prescription. It's REALLY expensive otherwise! You should do the test NOW because it involves eating wheat and making yourself deliberately ill for several weeks. If you do this at a later stage when your condition may be worse then you may not be able to cope with eating the wheat which means you'll never get diagnosed.

    Good luck!

EDIT: NO SCOCASSO!!! BARLEY WILL HAVE THE SAME EFFECT AS GLUTEN. OATS OFTEN DO TOO BECAUSE THEY ARE ALMOST ALWAYS CROSS CONTAMINATED DURING PRODUCTION.

  13. Most products you buy these days you can get wheat free alternatives, visit a health food store for advice, or ask the managers in the supermarket. I suppose it would be harder when eating out but if the restaurant is decent enough then the chef should know what contains wheat and what doesnt.

  14. yea there are defiantly a lot of foods you can eat. youll just have to take a little more time to read labels before eating. it wont bo that bad, vegans do it all the time. haha

  15. I don't see a problem.

There's a whole world of food out there, and hundreds of different grain other than wheat which you can try, such as millet, quiona, barley, oats, ....

Rennet... easy to avoid... it's basically only in cheese.

Gelatin... also easy to avoid.  And you can make your own gelatin type products with pectin, agar, konyaku, acorn powder, etc.  Lots of things to what gelatin does.  Gelatin is just cheap -- that's the only reason it exists.

Check out cookbooks... look at other countries and cultures... explore; try new things...  What you see on the typical supermarket shelves in N. America is very highly limited and represents a very very tiny fraction of what actually exists in the world.
