If you are young and in high school I would suggest a jitter bug. Try the Exploratorium website, and look for the after school projects for a way to make one.  It uses a CD, wire, a battery, and a tiny motor available at Radio Shack.  Very simple to  put together and demontrates rotational energy.

make a burning laser.....u need a potentionmeter...a laser diode of which u can get from a cd-rw drive..a base..some wire...a sordoring iron and sodoring wire...a battery holder  which u can get out of like electric s***w driver...and some batteries.and a toggle switch..connect the potentionmeter to the diode and then connect the wires to the toggle switch then run some wires from the switch to the battery pack then more wires to the potentionmeter...turn it on and adjust ur potentionmeter and after u get it to max strength put it all in ur base and put it on a piece of paper to see if it works.....it all should work..u can find potentionmeters on ebay for like 0.99 cents and u can google the diodes and should find them....its pretty neat acually
