  1. You will need a treadmill that allows you to adjust your speed for this workout. Total Time - 15 minutes.

    - Start off by walking at 3.0 (3 mph) for 3 minutes.

    - Increase the speed to 3.5 and jog for 3 minutes. The key to jogging at low speeds is to maintain an even, gentle rhythm.

    - Increase the speed to 4.0 and jog for 3 minutes.

    - Increase the speed to 5.0 and jog a little faster now for 3 minutes.

    - Depending on how strong you feel, increase the speed to either 5.5 or 6.0 and jog for 3 minutes.

    - Finish off by walking at 3.0 for as long as you need to catch your breath and cool down a bit.

This is the first step towards changing your thinking towards running. For many people, trying this workout for the first time is like a wake up call, alerting them to the fact that even they can run, when they previously thought it was impossible. For others, while this workout still might be challenging, it enables them to have a realistic goal to shoot for, and motivates them to keep trying to improve their running ability.

  2. You're probably already in good enough shape. Sometimes when testing for a belt, nerves and adrenaline can get to you. That can sap your strength as much as anything.

And for those of you who STILL insist that TKD is useless, I can tell you, my training has bailed me out of more that one situation. ANY martial art can help you in a self defense situation. TKD hasn't been around all this time for nothing, and it won't be disappearing any time soon.

  3. Oh man you do need help!! you have chosen a joke of a fighting style!!! zomg god Help you

  4. my first thought was if you do not feel ready do not test. if you are forced to test that is a bad school, that is only trying to build 'blackbelt status' and not real blackbelt fighters. second thought was you just sound burned out. maybe take a week or two off for a tkd vacation. once again your instructors should understand. it also sounds like you put to much pressure on your self and likely have an adrenaline dump witch causes severe fatigue.

it should also be mentioned that the tests are supposed to be hard. they are supposed to separate the men from the boys. a real man rises to the occasion or admits when he can't do it. its the boys who let arrogance get in the way.

you could also check your diet. get rid of sugars and most dairy products. caffeine is a bad one too.

  5. It sounds like you are doing plenty of training; I think it is all in your head.  The mind always gives in before the body; you should start challenging your mind as well as your body.  Even something like press ups, leg raises and squats can help you to develop this.  I.E. try doing press ups for 30 sec's and hold your self at 1 inch above the ground for 30 sec's, repeat this 3-4 times.  Know matter how much it hurts just keep on going, once you get used to this increase the time and once you have finished with the press ups move straight onto leg raises (hold at 6 inches), then squats (hold at 90 degrees, with your back straight).  Again for all of these it will hurt, but you will be developing your fighting spirit, which is basically you telling your self that you will not give in!

For my black belt I had to spar 14 rounds 2 min's a piece, 9 of them were light cont. 5 of them were full contact.  On my 13th round my instructor put me up against this 14 year old kid, who kicked like an adult.  He knew I couldn't hit a kid hard, so I took a good kicking; the last round was horrible I had to spar against some guy going for his 2nd.  Both of us were knackered, it turned into a slug fest I thought I was going to die!  But like a true warrior I kept punching (I couldn't lift my legs lol) to the instructor shouted time.

Positive thoughts mate, never surrender you will find this little pot of energy deep inside of you that rarely gets touched.  Use it when you need to the most; boxers, kickboxers and Thai boxers in the last round of a gruelling fight have to use this all the time.  As do people who fight in wars, however it isn't an endless pot, this is when you see a fighter who has had one to many fights and everyone can see he/she is all spent up!

    :-)
