this is wat i gotta do -

write the sermon that could have been delivered in the church after the mob scene ouside the jail. The purpose of a sermon is to discuss moral issues in such a way that everybody is able to relate to them. You might like to start with, 'the sermon for today is about the choice between right and wrong, that we as individuals are constantly forced to make'.

I need this for skool by monday so PLZ HELP ME!!!!!!

  1.   The "English major" above me should realize that there is a very big difference between the movie and the book.  Let's assume the person asking this question has read the book.  In the scene, a mob has gathered outside the jail where Tom Robinson, falsely accused of raping Mayella Ewell, is being held.   Through the innocence of Scout, we are able to see the exent of the evils of racism in this book.  Even Jem becomes victimized by it.  He's older and starts to realize how evil people really can be.   He has lost his childhood innocence and faith in people. Scout, still young and innocent, has faith in human nature.   The jailhouse mob scene is the perfect platform for a sermon about the evils of racism and mob violence.  Nobody in the crowd has the guts to speak the truth.  Scout has the nerve to address the crowd outside the jail at night.  She even addresses Mr. Cunningham, a person her aunt has indicated is her social inferior.  Scout doesn't see racial or social distinctions.  She is truly the open-minded person her father has taught her to be.  Your sermon should address this.  Remember the bible quote: "Suffer the little children to come unto me, for theirs is the kingdom of God"?  You can start with that, and show how Scout's innocence is what God expects of all of us.  Then you can show how the crowd mentality - everyone jumping on the bandwagon to lynch Tom Robinson before they've even given him a fair trial - is evil.  Show how racism is evil.    We know who really raped Mayella, and the residents of Maycomb know very well who did, too, but theyr'e so blinded by racism they refuse to do what they know is right.

There's a great sermon in there.  Write it.  : )

  2. First, don't panic.  I majored in English, and know lots of tips.  I'll be glad to help out when I can.

    Go to http;//www.Netflix.com

or somewhere like that, where you can rent a movie and download it to watch.

There's a 1950s black and white movie that's classic, and close enough to the book to get by.  Watch the movie.  Then you'll have a better idea of what you're being asked to do.

Anyhow, in a last minute deal, I don't consider movies cheating.  As long as the story is the same, of course some have scenes deleted, but the plot is the same.

I'll do some research and you can get back to me or whatever.  The main actor in "To Kill a Mockingbird" is Gregory Peck.  I've watched it a lot, but couldn't tell you details right off.

So don't panic.  Plan to spend at least 3-4 hours and it doesn't all have to be in one day.
