If you have friends that you would like to be part of your list you can send out invitations thru the group's homepage by clicking on "Invite".  You can invite up to 100 people per day if that feature is available at your group's site.

Also, if you are on other groups and the owner allows for it you can post the link to your group at the other sites to let others know about the group.
