  1. OK first of all you say your his step mom why do you have custody is there maybe something in his past that is causing him not to try maybe you should get him some counseling and find out whats bothering him

  2. Make an appointment with his doctor to express your concerns and get a refferal to a doctor who is trained in recognizing and diagnosing these types of behaviors. Also, call your son's school and ask how to get in contact with the special education department of your local school district. Once you get in touch with them they can also do testing to help with getting an educational diagnosis as well. Often times, educational testing is free through the district and is another resource for families with money/medical care issues. If what the school finds matches up with what the doctor finds (which it often does, this is what these people are educated and trained to do) then you know you are on the road to getting the help your son needs to be successful, healthy, and happy with himself. There is the chance that they will find nothing out of the ordinary and that he is like many typical 5 year olds just going through a stage. Having the testing done will finally put your mind to rest and give you the tools you need to help your son move forward with whatever is bothering him.

  3. I'm not even sure ADHD is a really disease.  First, consider what bedtime your child has, how much sleep he is getting, what he eats...like is he loading up on sugar/sodium, which can throw your system out of wack.  If you're not sure, check labels on what he is eating.  My sister quit giving her kid those microwavable meals made by Gerber because the sodium in it was nuts.  Also, does he have an outlet for his energy?  Not saying you do this, but watching hours of television or playing videogames can make even an adult frusrtated.  It has negative effects on the brain.  Also, all of us have different ways we learn.  What works for one might not work for another.  That is why some kids may be super smart but do bad in school.  Also, if he has vision problems, that could affect his ability to read.  You really need to examine all these things and more before you drag him to a doctor who is going to load him  up on drugs.  You wouldn't give  your kid a cigarette or weed to calm  him down...why give him a bunch of pills?

  4. I wanted to write something sincere and constructive for you...but based on your combined syntax, grammar, and spelling mistakes I feel it would not be worthwhile.  Have you tried spanking the child?  Did he do what he was told to do then? Try that, and work forwards from there.

P.S. - Children like when you read to them.

  5. Before you even think of medicating him, take an inventory of his diet.  In many cases, adjusting what goes into him each day can have a profound effect on his behavior. There are many sites to check out.  Try Natural treatments for ADHD and go from there. I had a friend who was told to put her child on one of those dangerous medications (and they are all dangerous) she went the natural way and monitored his diet and there was a significant change in his behavior. It can be done.

  6. HE IS A LITTLE KID!!! ADHD is not the answer to everything that a child does that is bad...too many children are being diagnosed with ADHD when they aren't even close to having it...it's called being a kid...let him run around...let him have fun, and set up some sort ot game that gets him to have fun while learning...

  7. Realistically, he should see a doctor and you should get some professional advice (but try to avoid medicating him if possible).

Some temporary solutions would be making sure he is getting a good about of physical exercise, eating healthy (lotsa fruits and veggies!), and not spending too much time watching tv/playing video games/playing on computer.  My last tip is keeping him to a schedule and keeping the house organized.  It may seem like a lot of work, but sometimes these tips can cause dramatic improvements in hyper children.

  8. Hmm..ADHD is a very difficult disease that affects most aspects of a child's life.  I'm sorry to hear that your child is having a particularly hard time adjusting, but most children do show improvement as they grow older (the exception being those who develop ADD (adult attention deficit disorder), or so I've heard.  I don't actually know anyone who has ADHD (I do have a friend with ADD) but I've studied it in Early Childhood classes.  Drugs can be helpful but they have many negative side effects; therapy and other methods are usually recommended first.  You should probably visit a doctor to get an accurate prognosis (he can most likely refer you to a specialist who works with children who have difficulty with ADHD).   Be sure to express your concerns to him so he can help as much as he can.  Your insurance may even cover therapy and other methods; be sure to check before visting your pediatrician.

Unfortunately, even children who do not have ADHD often do not want to do their homework. :)  My parents used to treat me everytime I did a good job (eg. SMALL amounts of candy, sugar-free cookies, or a trip to the park, ect., but only once I completely finished my work).  If he enjoys listening to books but not reading you might try to find simple books that have lots of pictures and few words (just to start, of course).  In the beginning it might help to play the audiotape along but pause it and encourage your child to work out single (and later several joined) words.  Your local librarian might also have suggestions, I've always found ours to be very helpful and friendly. :)  Lots of children find reading difficult at first, but the fact that you're tackling it now is great (learning to read is much easier at a younger age; it becomes almost impossible in a matter of years.  A shame, really as I know a few illiterate adults who simply won't learn to read.).

I hope that this helps, and best wishes!  :D  I'm rooting for your son!

  9. You should take him to the doctor to get him diagnosed. If he actually has it, they'll give him medication that will help him focus.

  10. Get a referal from the Dr for a psychiatrist or behavioral health facility. They can do an evaluation and look at what is going on with him and help you figure out what is going on and how to help him.  Something is going on and you need to figure out what.  My son is like that but they diagnosed him with PDD/Aspergers.

  11. beat your child
