  1. the white poo is not poo it is urates, this is tortoise wee, because tortoises are found in hot dry places their bodies are designed to hold all the water they get out of their food so their bodies use every drop of water consumed, they do not wee like us and the white stuff is just tortoise wee and perfectly normal, you sound like you  care for your new tortoise, but don't feed too much broccoli and cauliflower as this binds calcium so too much can be bad but it is OK about once a week, get a good calcium supplement or a cuttle fish and grate it over the food twice a week and you should have no problems with your tortoise, best of luck honey

  2. bring him to the vet so he can get better

  3. It is normal for tortoises to periodically excrete a gray to whitish, chalky material. This should not happen all the time. Regular poo should firm and a Brownish-Greenish color, poo that is runny, loose, or contains mucus is a sign of illness.

Dont take him to the vet, it'll cost you a bunch of money. Your turtle will be A-OK.

  4. hi, the white stuff is ok - as everybody else said it's tortoise pee.

re diet - anything from the brassica family isn't very good - these plants (cauliflower, broccoli, cabbage, chinese leaf...) contain so-called antinutrients. they make tortoises lose calcium. best stuff is dandelion, plantain, clover etc. if you can't get this all the time, lettuce, rocket, radiccio etc. are ok but you shouldn't rely on supermarket stuff all the time (it's not as nutritious as leaves from a park).

what i'd recommed is that you take both your pets to a vet asap and have them checked. the vet should have a look at poo samples as well because most animals are very stressed and weak when bought and can be heavily infested with parasites. it's possible that this is why one of them is unwell now.

my tortoise almost died a couple of weeks after i got him but after he was wormed he got better very quickly. the vet actually didn't see anything in his poo  but we decided that we'll try worming him anyway and it helped.

having them wormed will not cost you much (last time i paid about £4 for the procedure).

i can't recommend this highly enough to anyone getting a tortoise. the money you spend on this will be nothing compared to treating a very sick animal.

also please find out what species you have and then do as much research as you can to make sure yo look after your pets well.

have a look at these websites:

    good luck!

  6. White poo is normal. Brown Poo is normal. Hiding is normal. If you just got it, they aren't used to being able to hide since they are on display in the pet store. it'll get over it. You seem to have a healthy tortoise.
