I have a bush/tree beside my home that has got these purple flowers on it. They each have 5 petals with a darker purple inside of them. There is a similar tree/bush nearby that has the same flowers except they are white. Here is a picture of the purple ones:

  1. Hibiscus or Rose of Sharon.  Same plant - different name.

  2. It's a Rose of Sharon, a beautiful tough type of hibiscus.

My great-grandmother had several of these.  I have three of them myself.

  3. Rose of Sharon, my father- in -law bought five of these twenty years ago now we have them every where. They grow easily from seeds. They make a good hedge for privacy fence, The hummingbirds love them.
