What are the reasons for conservation of species with reference to maintenance of biodiversity, management of fisheries and management of timber production?

  1. Ecosystem maintains itself through interactions between living and non-living components and there is a continuous flow of energy and materials among these components. In this flow, every specific component has its own value and role to be played. Disturbance in any one component will also disturb the others and ultimately the whole food web and energy cycle.

    Thus, conserving species in this regard is a prerequiste to maintain biodiversity of an area. For example extinction of a carnivores in an areas will result in uncheck growth of herbivores in absence of any predators ofcourse and this will result in overexpolitation of producers ultimately.

    With respect to fisheries and timber, these are growing industries and some fishes and plants have more economic values than others.

    Moreover, species have their own intrnisic values too. For which their conservation is necessary.
