The quote is:

A leader may symbolize and express what is best in people, like Pericles, or what is worst, like Hitler, but he cannot successfully express what is only in his heart and not in theirs. (by Charles Yost)

i need help to understand what this quote means, especially the second part where it states "...but he cannot successfully..."

  1. this quote simply means that as a leader (like Pericles or Hitler was) you can only represent the best or worst in your people (the people you lead or that look up to you or follow you)... As a leader you cannot only represent what you feel (have in your heart) as you wouldn't have a following if you were like that....

    hope it helps :)

  2. it is better to have lived than to never live at all
