  1. -25-25= -50

    32-(-17)-32

the first subtraction sign and the negative sign cancel each other out making it:

    32+17-32

    49-32=17

  2. If it helps, think of the numbers as dollars you have. Positive means you have money.  Negative means you owe.  Adding means you pay back or increase what you have, Subtracting means you borrow more, or decrease what you have.

    1)

    -25 -25

    You owe $25  (-25)

    You borrow $25 more  (-25)

    You now owe $50  (-50)

    2)

    32 - (-17) - 32

Note that you can do these subtractions in any order, so lets re-order to

    32 - 32 - (-17)

    Since 32 - 32 = 0, you get....

    0 - (-17)

Subtracting a negative number is like removing a debt.  You owe $17, and the debt goes away.  This is the same as adding $17

    0 - (-17) = 0 + 17 = 17

Good luck, and try more.  Talk to your teacher after class, and ask for more help and problems.  Don't blame your old teacher, just let your new one know that you wan't more practice.

  3. 1. -50

    2. 17

get a scientific calculater(spelled wrong) really helps

  4. 1. so its a negative 25 and add another negative 25

    that would be -50

    2.32 subtract a negative 17, so 32 minus(negative 17) minus 32

32's cross out and you get -(-17)

the opposite of a negative is a positive so its 17

  5. im in honors too and im goin into 8th grade but im takin algebra 2 (thats sophmore math =])  i totally understand about the bad teacher thing  i had a HORRIBLE teacher two years ago and then i got an amazing teacher but it was so difficult to catch back on  soo anyway..........  um #1  would be -50 b/c ur going backwards on the number line and #2. just remember that the parenthasese are just there to separate the negative and subtraction signs.  so just go from left to right  so it would be,  32- -17 which would be 49 and then it would be 49-32 so u'd get a positive 17.

just a trick for ur own knowledge,  idk if this is gonna be to confusing but......when u have double signs  like 32 MINUS A NEGATIVE 17  u have to minus signs (VERY CONFUSING) but if u learned multiplication and division of integers u kno that a negative times a negative is a positve  so now that problem is 32 + 17  (do u get where im coming from here? probably not but it was just a thought.  so all in all if u have double signs, multiply the signs to get just one sign.)

i kno ull have more questions so feel free to email me at gippy32595@yahoo.com  just make sure that u put math question form yahoo answers in the subject box so i dont mark it as spam!!

    good luck!!  =]
