  1. Well if you ride western i would do western not english because you will probbaly make a fol out of yourself.

BUt if you have the confidence to do english go right ahead but first take some english riding classes.

  2. enter next year and work this whole year, up to to the show next year, in english. there has to be someone around you that knows the classes and what you'd have to do to work toward it. good luck

  3. Are you new to English riding... or new to riding? Did you do western before or something?

Basically, as long as you have a horse who knows what he's doing; you'll be fine! :) Good luck!

  4. Hi,

I do a lot of stuff with my horse like western, gymkhana, cattle working, and ranch roping...and you guest it I'm doing english too this year at fair.  I'm sure you have ridden before in the past and if you haven't join a 4-H club(if they have ones where you live) it is really fun and I have learned a lot!  But, if you have ridden western it is pretty much the same thing with the balance and the basics.  The only thing that is different is the bridle, saddle, riding wear for you!  You do different classes too, like controlled riding and I know at my 4-H Fair if you are in level 2 you can jump!

So I hope you have fun!  And Good Luck in the ring!

  5. Just do your best! If you think you are ready to enter a show... then you must be!

  6. you do realize your taking classes to learn, right? nobody cares.

  7. always keep your heels down. do not enter any cantering classes. Just start with walk trot classes, but for someone who hasn't done much English, its safe. 7 basic things you need to know about in a walk trot class that the judge will tell you to do :

         1. walk(you walk)

         2. posting trot ( trot but also lift your buttock out of the saddle with the stride of the horse, when the outside front leg

is back your butt should be back in the saddle(diagonals)

         3. sitting trot(keep your buttock in the saddle)

         4. reverse (change direction in arena with a circle that churns into the arena, if the judge does not tell you to change gaits, don't)

        5. line up in front of the judge( line up with the other riders in front of the judge)

        6. backup( the judge will usually ask you to backup in line with the other horses one at a time)

anyway you probably don't want to do anymore then this this year for your safety and to keep the other riders around you safe. For next year it would be a great idea to look into English lessons. English is a lot of fun, but it also takes lots of training for both you and your horse. Good luck at your show, have fun next year

  8. Make sure your calves are tight, and your heels are down. Also, make sure you don't hang onto your horse's mouth. You need to use leg too! Remember, if you use your reins forcefully, you need to have the leg power to back it up, or your horse's front will move, but his bum won't.

    Most of all, Relax!

    Hope this helped...
