Help in finding an artist?

i'm taking an IB art class, and we have to pick an artist to follow throughout the year and model our work after. i'm really a photographer, but i'm trying to expand and try other mediums.

i'm looking for a relatively modern artist, that uses a lot of bright color and isn't too abstract. any suggestions? thanks!
