  1. You can try the following:

    1) Go to Start-->Control Panel-->Add or Remove Programs--> It will say "Currently Installed Programs and Updates:" at the top, click in the checkbox to the far right of it-->Now, look for Internet Explorer 8 and try and uninstall anything with the name "Internet Explorer 8".

    2) Exit all programs.  Press F3.  Windows Search should come up.  Search "Internet Explorer 8" or "ie8".  Make sure your search is searching for everything, or make sure you search in all files.  (I don't have Windows Vista, so I'm telling you what I would do with Windows XP, but it might work for Vista as well.)

    3)   Go to Start-->My Computer-->Local Disk (C:) (or whatever is listed under Hard Disk Drives-->Program Files-->Internet Explorer-->Keep clicking on all the files until you find anything to do with Internet Explorer 8, and delete it.

I agree with tatertard, Mozilla Firefox is far better than Internet Explorer, it is safer and faster.  You can download it here:

    http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/

Also, generally, it is recommended you don't get beta's for Internet Explorer, you should wait until they have worked out all the tweaks and errors if you want Internet Explorer 8.

    Best of luck!

  2. recommended way to uninstall IE, you have to do it thru this process "start" > "run" type "app wiz.cpl". when an add/remove programs pop up, click IE to delete. after uninstalling, restart the PC. it will go back to your normal say lower version of IE (perhaps). after restarting, go to the page where you want to download the IE higher version or beta and download it. to check if the download was successful, click "stat" > "run" and type "sfc /scannow". scanning windows will pop up and to automatically check your downloaded IE.

(though i can't guarantee by just make a try thru that process).

  3. nnylrandyb16,

You are the bravest person I know. They are still having problems with IE7, and you want to download IE8 beta. Some of us go through life valuing concepts such as safety, security, and stability. Others, such as yourself, taking risks, seeking the adrenalin rush, and pushing the limits of science and technology. Could I have an autographed picture of you?

    Finally, two words: Mozilla Firefox!
