Help installing a tub surround in our bathroom?

We are installing a bathtub surround in our bathroom. We are having trouble with the instalation. So we have the tub in and it is level. Our surround is a 3 piece surround. It is a nail to the stud type. How do we install the surround? We put it in (using caulking in the seams) and nailed it in, but it obviously needs to be glued too. However, we have insulation with plastic over the insulation behind the surround. I am assuming that we do not glue it to the plastic as that would do nothing to support the surround.

What do we do?

  1. No you don't need to glue it. If it nails to the stud that is your support. The sheetrock then sits over that nail strip, then when your done painting caulk that seam.

  2. I agree with Brian G. You just s***w/ nail it directly to the studs then wallboard over the lip. Just make sure that you put the back wall up first, then the sides. Also....VERY IMPORTANT.....make sure that you have your measurements correct for the shower spud (if it comes through the surround at the top), the valve and the spout before you drill out the holes with a hole-bit!!!!! If not, you just ate a surround and have to buy another one!

  3. It is usually glued to the wall also. It sounds like you forgot to put the wallboard up first.
